So about half a year ago I was using Amazon music app and Google play music app for pretty much all of my music listening. About a year ago I was using one of those radio apps tunein or something like that.
I got busy and was only listening to my podcasts through podcast addict while driving. I kept Amazon music updated (mostly because of those annoying alerts) but never really opened it.
Someone during my busy season they changed the app drastically, and not for the better. A lot of my music was greyed out (even a good portion of my offline music. ) I found that weird, but went on to purchase the album I had cracked open the app for. Didn't have any trouble buying it, but it didn't show up in my online music.
For the past two days I've been chatting with those poor customer service people trying to get the album to show up. This morning I finally managed to download it, and I felt confidant it would show up in my offline music library. Fast forward a couple hours and it's vanished. I could find out in the store, but couldn't play it without signing up to the new music unlimited service.
Fuck. That.
I made one more call to customer service, and had them refund the purchase. Which got taken care of quickly thank God. Told them what a shitshow the new app was and that if it wasn't usable in six months I'll be cancelling my prime subscription entirely.
I've been a prime subscriber since day 1. Literally Day One. I've never had a complaint about any of the services offered, always considered the music and Kindle bonuses nice extras. I'm not one to go off the edge because of a bad app version. That's how bad the music app is.
After uninstalling Amazon music, I cracked open my browser app and hit the pirate bay to download the album. Five minutes later I'm happily listening to the offspring.
Amazon fix your shit. I'm gonna mail $10 to the offspring with a more thorough retelling of this story and an apology for having to pirate their music.
disclaimer: I don't care about pirating content at all, but for media I think is worth the money I'll buy a copy. In this instance I refuse to give any portion to the content provider. I'll just be sending the cash to the artists directly.
Not even music, a fundamental element of human existence, can be simple. We have even screwed up our ability to appreciate and share one anothers talent. Good luck getting the sounds you want. Happy humming!
