This is an album which I heard the last day of the year and I thought it was fabulous. It is the Blood Sugar Sex Magik of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is the fifth studio album released by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Released in 1991, the album was produced by an old friend of the band and the successful producer / musical giant Rick Rubin.
It was the band's first album released on Warner Bros. Records.

The album talks about sexual advances as we can see in the titles of the songs "Suck my kiss", "Apache rose peacock" and "Sir Psycho Sexy". The album also talks about topics like drugs and death.

The illustration of the language on the cover of the album was designed by Henky Penky.

The album has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide and was the introduction of Red Hot Chili Peppers into world popularity

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is recognized as an influential and fundamental component of the alternative rock explosion in the early 1990s.

This album is undoubtedly the best long of the Red Hot.

Let's start to analyze it track by track:

The album begins with the song called "The power of equality" and you can notice the influence of funk music that this band has. It also shows his attitude of acceptance and anti-racism, since the song deals with socio-political issues.

The second song is called "If you have to ask". In the music video appears Arik Marshall, guitarist who replaces John Frusciante, in the band. The song includes a funky melody on the bass and ends with a long solo guitar by Frusciante, in fact you can hear applause from the production and from the rest of the band when the improvised solo ends.

The third song is "Breaking the girl". This is without a doubt one of my favorites. The song narrates a relationship that leader Anthony Kiedis had with his ex-girlfriend, Carmen Hawk.

The fourth song is "Funky Monks". In this song Kiedis says that no one in Red Hot Chili Peppers has sex often, taunting the whole industry that focuses on sex.

The fifth song is "Suck My Kiss". Another one of my favorites. This song talks about a girl for whom Anthony shares his wishes that this girl kiss him intensely through explosive verses.

The sixth song is "I could have lied". "I Could Have Lied" is about the relationship of singer Anthony Kiedis with Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor.

The seventh song is "Mellowship Slinky In B Major". The song is not in itself greater. Many of the lyrics of this song are simply Anthony Kiedis singing about a variety of his favorite things and people.

The eighth song is "The Righteous And The Wicked". The song is about the struggle for peace and war.

The ninth song is "Give it away". Another one of my favorites. This song is about the value of sharing things with our life partners.

The tenth song is "Blood Sugar Sex Magik". This song gives the album its name. Singer Anthony Kiedis keeps his voice seductively turned off through the sexual accumulation of each verse before "climaxing" in the chorus.

The eleventh song is "Under the bridge". My favorite. The song is about the singer Anthony Kiedis and the period of his life in which he traveled to Los Angeles sad and very lonely, finding comfort in the streets, hills and the wind, thinking about his dead friend and the guitarist of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Hillel Slovak, and in the heroin overdose that killed him.

The twelfth song is "Naked in the rain". Song more rock and with much participation of the bass. Guitar somewhat inert on the subject, but with great percussion. However, as always Frusciante does his thing and he just becomes quite entertaining.

The thirteenth song is "Apache Rose Peacock". A somewhat lounge theme with a catchy harmony. However, it is a subject that does not stand out much.

The fourteenth song is "The Greeting Song". Rocker theme and much faster than its predecessors. Incredible guitar and quite optimistic the subject.

The fifteenth song is "My Lovely Man". It is a tribute to Hillel Slovak, who died in 1988 due to an overdose of heroin.

The sixteenth song is "Sir Psycho Sexy". Atmosphere somewhat psychodelic, and with somewhat black nuances. A subject that according to my appreciation, extends the album more than it should be.

The seventeenth song is "They're red hot." It's a ridiculously accelerated version of "They're Red Hot" by Robert Johnson in 1936.

After having listened to a pure funk record, I think I can admit that it is a complete and quite good genre. During the time I listened to the album there were songs that I liked a lot and others for nothing.
