Hey all. Starting from this post, I'll try to recommend some Nordic Jazz bands, since I'm an avid listener myself.
It was the beginning of the 2000's, 2005 to be precise, when I first heard EST's Viaticum. I was doing my bachelor's degree as a pianist at the conservatory at that time. I don't remember how I came upon EST's, then, latest album online, but after that I tried to find and buy everything they had recorded.
The EST is a Swedish jazz trio, consisting of Esbjörn Svensson on the piano, Dan Berglund on double bass and Magnus Öström on drums. They've had an incredible career, until in 2008 Esbjörn had an unfortunate diving accident and passed away. Since then Dan Berglund started his own project called Tonbruket and Magnus Öström has his own band called Magnus Öström Band.
I'm one of the fortunate few who could listen to the EST live and even have their autographed concert DVD. I still remember that day more than 10 years ago as if it were just yesterday.
So for those who are interested in discovering this band, I'd recommend listening to their Viaticum and Live in Hamburg albums.
