5 songs that made me stop and drop (because of haunting beauty).

Here are 5 powerful songs that made me stop and drop because of the emotion and haunting beauty in them. What are your stop and drop songs that have fallen into heavy rotation?

1. Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over.

Mixed tapes were like love notes that you wrote to friends back in day. My boyfriend at the time made me a cassette mixed tape for a road trip in 1995 and he put a couple songs from the Grace album on it.
This Jeff Buckley song came on, and I stopped and dropped. ... OMG Who is This?

2. Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

This was the 3rd studio album released by Funkadelic in 1971. This song is almost 10 minutes long. It's expansive and psychedelic and Eddie Hazel's guitar solo was the best I've ever heard. A journey song that made me stop and drop at 15 years old and musically shaped me.

3. Roberta Flack - Until it's Time for you to Go

Roberta Flack: A goddess. A master. As a pianist / singer myself, some of my classic sheros include Nina Simone, Shirley Horn, and the amazing Roberta Flack. When you accompany yourself as a singer you set the space for the voice. Many singers are at the mercy of their accompanists, but those that accompany themselves self empower themselves. This song made me stop and drop. It's intimate, it's painful, it's beautiful, it's perfect.

4. Radiohead - Exit Music (for a Film)

The year OK Computer came out (omg 1997?!) I was traveling and I actually heard this album for the first in London at coffee shop. I stopped and dropped and asked - What is this? It's amazing. I wasn't an early Radiohead fan but this album stayed on heavy rotation and this song is the best. It's a journey - It's about escape - It's cinematic - It's dark and beautiful. All the best stuff.

5. Audra Mae - Forever Young

This song inspired this blog post because I've been obsessing over it. I'm not necessarily into bike culture and kinda laughed at myself for getting sucked into the Sons of Anarchy Series. Then this song surfaced and made me stop and drop. Audra's voice coupled with Bob Dylan's beautiful words... Well, another perfect song and wish to send.
