“Across the Universe” by The Beatles (John Lennon) – SteemitCentral Lyrics Challenge – Day 57 / 60

“Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns, And calls me on and on across the universe”

song ~ “Across the Universe”
artist ~ The Beatles

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world   [repeat]

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world   [repeat]

Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing
Through my open ears, inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
And calls me on and on across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world   [repeat]

John Lennon wrote this lyrics for “Across the Universe”  after listening to his first wife, Cynthia, talking non-stop about something.

A Cosmic Song

Lennon stated that, although he was irritated when he was listening to Cynthia’s incessant chatter, the song did not express any irritation. When he was writing the lyrics, he apparently forgot what she had been saying, and remembered only that her words were “flowing out like endless rain … across the universe.”  Consequently, as he wrote the song, it turned into a “cosmic song.”

A Spiritual Song

In a sense, it also became a spiritual song. At the time, The Beatles had been studying and practicing Transcendental Meditation. For some reason, Lennon included, as part of the chorus, the Sanskrit mantra “Jai guru deva om”  – which can be translated as “Glory to the divine being.”  Lennon later stated that the song’s lyrics were possibly the best he’d ever written, calling it “good poetry.”

A Changed World

In the chorus, John repeated the sentence “Nothing’s gonna change my world.”  But soon thereafter, he left Cynthia. He then shacked up with an Asian woman, and she changed his world … forever.     (Image source)
