“She's been gone such a long time, Longer than I can bear”
song ~ “Heart Full Of Soul”
artist ~ The Yardbirds
Sick at heart and lonely,
Deep in dark despair.
Thinking one thought only
Where is she, tell me where.
And if she says to you
She don't love me
Just give her my message
Tell her of my plea
And I know if she had me back again
Well I would never make her sad.
I've gotta heart full of soul.
She's been gone such a long time
Longer than I can bear
But if she says she wants me
Tell her that I'll be there
And if she says to you
She don't love me
Just give her my message
Tell her of my plea.

The lyrics to this classic song, from the 1960s band The Yardbirds, were penned by Graham Gouldman, one of the greatest songwriters of his time.
No love lost, only a lost lover
The bluesy lyrics are basically a plea to a lover. But the song is not simply a tale of “lost love.” Although the man has lost his lover, his love remains. In fact, he still has a “heart full” of soul and love.
A much higher love
While this may be a love song, the love it speaks of is not the mushy emotional “heart-felt” love of most songs. This love is a higher love, a love that is elevated beyond the heart, to the level of the soul. And it’s very likely that his “heart full of soul” will nurture a transcendent love.
