“Beneath the stains of time, The feelings disappear.”
song ~ “Hurt”
artist ~ Nine Inch Nails
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of shit
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

In 1996, the song “Hurt,” by the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song. It’s an unsettling song about addiction, pain, loss, depression, and betrayal – with (maybe) a glimmer of hope.
Everybody hurts
In 1995, when Nine Inch Nails opened for David Bowie’s tour, Bowie performed the song with songwriter / vocalist Trent Reznor.
In 2003, Johnny Cash recorded a cover version of “Hurt.” Cash’s version of the song and the accompanying video led Reznor to state that the song “isn’t mine anymore.” He also praised Cash for the “sincerity” of his interpretation. (Image source)
Shared honor
In 2003, Cash’s cover received the award for “Single of the Year” from the Country Music Association. It has also achieved numerous other awards, nominations, and accolades.
Cash truly deserved such honors, and so did Reznor, for composing these fine lyrics.Nine Inch Nails – "Hurt" (Right-click to hear on YouTube)

These are really powerful lyrics. The lines are quite deep and piercing. Thanks for sharing this.

Yes, it's a great song. Since I have no (no more) interest in industrial rock, I did not know of this song until Johnny Cash covered it. The visceral lyrics and powerful delivery blew me away.
Thanks for resteeming these posts. Let's hope it generates more exposure and more growth for Steemit.
