Hi Steemit!
Today, on yet another ”Get Some Jazz Steemit” post, I’m sharing a great groovy cover of Thom Yorke’s “Black Swan”, by the New York modern jazz guitarrist, Wayne Krantz
The original song belongs to Yorke’s album “The Eraser”.
On this version, Wayne Krantz mixes improvisational spaces with the nice melody of the original song, what ends up being a groovy song that goes from exploring the harmony and groove to a well known place which is the original melody.
This was recorded live at the 55th Bar in NYC, I was fortunate enought to go to this place to see many artists perform. It is a small cozy place where I got to see many of my musical heroes play just steps away from me.
Drummer here is the great Keith Carlock, who to me has an unique “open” sound in the drums.
Not only does he use mostly fingers and a loose grip on his hands technique to achieve an open sound on the kit, but he also likes to have the bass drum empty, with no muffling, which helps to have an, overall, unique and fat sound.
Aside from that, he’s a groove master, he will most probably make your head move to the music.
I hope you enjoy the song!
