This is the approach to teaching/learning the basics of chords and strumming at my school in SoCal:
- Learn to Tune Up
- Learn Basic Open Chords (Lots of repetition and switching between chords)
- Whole Notes (the largest music duration first, then subsequently split in half)
- Half Notes
- Quarter Notes
- Eighth Notes
- SONGS
I like to have our students get used to Rhythm Charts right in the beginning, so I have included them here. Enjoy!!

Thanks for watching!! For a beginner, steel string acoustic has bigger, harder strings-so physically it is harder. Electric is physically easier to play, but then you need a cable, amp also.
