communal heartbeat the power of music

in music •  7 years ago

I was recently taking a djembe workshop in NYC and we discussed how there is a powerful communal aspect of playing music.

This is especially true with drum circles. We all can connect via an internal pulse. Often when I drum with others there are moments when I feel disconnect, a discord where I know we are feeling different pulses. There are other moments when there is this communal unification, where I feel very connected to the other musicians in the room.

Music is an incredibly healing practice, this is true in any type of communal sound practice, whether it be at a club, drum circle, rehearsal, or just listening to music at a concert.

The music creates a central pulse that allows us all to share something that makes us human, the pulse of life.
