Rocksmith 2014 Remastered

in music •  7 years ago

Years ago, I received a guitar as a birthday present from my wife and kids. I have always wanted to learn. Problem is I never had the time or, honestly, the discipline to really make an effort at it.

Life always seemed to get in the way. Work, renovations, moving, night courses at one of the colleges, more renovations, etc. Always an excuse. Or at least it seemed to be for me.

My wife says I have issues with over scheduling myself. I have to have time to help everyone, but never have time to help myself. Never put time towards the things that I want to pursue. I have made half-hearted attempts at scuba diving, getting back into writing, speaking Portuguese (somewhat successful there) and learning the guitar.

So this year, I made a promise to myself. Once I got to the point of painting the basement in my long running renovation project, I would put some time towards seriously learning the guitar. I had bought Rocksmith 2014 Remastered on Steam a while back. It was waiting for me. I just needed the cable. Last week, I saw the price of the cable drop to $38 CAD, taxes in. Ordered it.

The cable arrived yesterday...

Last night I began my journey. Just half an hour or so. But it is something. I need to do a review of Rocksmith, but the interface so far at first impression is slick and works well on my laptop.

Tired of disappointing myself. I really want to make it work this time. I do not have aspirations of joining a band. At least, not yet. This is more about proving to myself that I can make the effort for me.

How's it going? I played with a web app that could listen to what you played a while back. There's so much potential for technology to help people learn to play. You are spoiled with all the online lessons these days. There's still times when a real teacher can help as they will spot bad habits
