Remembering Amrita Pritam – Main Tumhe Phir Milungi | Video

in music •  7 years ago

Amrita Pritam (31 August 1919 – 31 October 2005) was an Indian writer and poet, who wrote in Punjabi and Hindi.
She is considered the first prominent woman Punjabi poet, novelist, and essayist, and the leading 20th-century poet of the Punjabi language, who is equally loved on both sides of the India-Pakistan border. With a career spanning over six decades, she produced over 100 books of poetry, fiction, biographies, essays, a collection of Punjabi folk songs and an autobiography that were translated into several Indian and foreign languages.

Here is what our Principal and the singer/composer for this song has to say about Amrita Pritam & this performance:

I heard this poem in Gulzar Saab’s voice in Punjabi – “main tenu fir milaungi” on YouTube a few years back and since then I was looking for this poem’s Hindi translation.

I got all her poetry but not this poem. One of my friend who knew my passion towards Amrita Pritam ji, came to my house one day with one of her poetry book translated in Hindi. He had bought it from old Delhi on his work trip.

I am really thankful to my friend Irwingstone Howard for this priceless gift! I composed this poem and I used to sing it to myself. This was in 2009.

My life events and people around me lead me to this day today. My friend Mayuri Joshi Dhavale suggested my name to her mother Mrs. Geetanjali Joshi for her show on Amrita Pritam’s poetry. And there I sang this song first time in front of public on 31st August 2013.

Geetanjali ma’am gave me Imroj sir number and that day when I spoke to Imroj sir was the most memorable day of my life. He gave me permission of using this poem verbally and of course I am thankful to Mr Aman Kwatra for giving me copyright of this poem.

My muziclub team made this dream of mine true. This song has come out so well in only 5 days that I truly believe in cosmic controversies now! This song Amrita ji wrote on her deathbed for Imroj sir. Love the supreme emotion at its best in this poem .
