This is really the culmination of several stories. Floor Jansen has been at this game since she was 16. She attended the Rock Academie in Tilburg and was the front for a band called After Forever. She later formed another band called Revamp. After touring she suffered a burnout and quit performing. This is not uncommon as it takes an enormous effort for a band to even have a product, let alone a successful one.
Nightwish, a Finish band that formed in 1996, had just lost their 2nd vocalist in the middle of a tour and were in desperate need of a replacement singer. Anyone who is familiar with their work will understand this is not an easy task as there are few that can cover that territory. In the world of music it is not uncommon to listen to other people's work, so they decided to give Floor Jansen a call; she agreed to the request to help them finish the tour and was ready to hit the stage after 48 hours!! (unreal as most bands rehearse for 6 months before touring)
After the tour Floor Jansen became a permanent member of the Band's line-up.
Some of you who read this may not be fans of Metal, but even if you are into Opera or classical music, I think it's worth it to give this 10 minute live recording a listen/view. I think vocal coaches will be referring to this concert for a long time to come; Floor and the band got everything right. Enjoy.
I didn't do a Camera count, but I think there are at least 10, and the sound crew did some fantastic work documenting this event, the sound quality is stunning for an open air event with 85,000 in attendance.
If you liked this performance, consider buying the live DVD. I've seen it and the entire show was performed at the same level as the video you just saw. It's available here: https://www.backstagerockshop.com/collections/nightwish/products/nightwish-showtime-storytime-2dvd?ls=en
Have a good one.
This lady's vocal capacity sure lifts metal to another level.
I don't want to know what happened to you here (I groan in sympathy and can easily guess how it more or less went). I only realised after your reply to me that you took a little fall....
And so it goes here like it goes outside (literally in my case: I've been kept busy for 6 bloody months without any result with ridiculous petty garden fence wars that put my reputation far into the minus!) It's all unreal and nobody knows it. Fighting to keep the peace.
Here you are, just another joe in this jumble sale of a life, being a conscious and caring, courteous, original and authentic individual trying to aid interconnectivity, bringing new people together, inspiring with fresh sounds (especially in your music promotion work) - of course you are going to have to be assertive at times - and look where it gets you; well precisely where they all want to be: nowhere fast. And fortunately for you that's just (one of) your persona(s) tossed about in their maelstrom and your real self is still on dry land.
Happy to hear you are going on a summer project. As always drive safely! Maybe this one will hit the box office big time! Do we even really want that?.... Just have fun. It's all curtains before we know it, anyway...
No, I'm not down in the dumps. Far from it. Life's never been tougher, but neither have I. The tough bit being: you've seen it all before, and know what's coming years in advance. So it can get a bit boring. This may be reflected in the pieces I intend to write if I write at all. A bit Leonora Carrington and Vario Remedios inspired perhaps: to allow myself the privilige to go a little nutty or actually quite cryptic (it's only poetry).
I have been boosted by a quainte history of art critic, YouTuber Antonio Garcia Villarán (a little on the metal side, not a great artist himself, but he has a great eye, and tolerates no media hype, which means he tears down the Hirsts and Yoko Onos but even Picasso, Dali and my friend Miró. Hamparte he calls it all.)
After four videos -finally- I realised he was speaking in Spanish, which much delighted me. It had felt like a mother tongue. (Ok. I exaggerate here where you would not have to). I am now taking it as a sign that it is realistic to nurture my interest in a return to Spain...

I'm still not in a place where I can travel much, but I think the first place I'd visit is Andorra on my way to Barcelona.
Sorry to hear about the Fence war. Down here we have a TV show (de rijdende rechter) The traveling Judge, that would often cover border disputes that involved moving Sheds, Fences, Hedges, Driveways and such. Amazing how much trouble is generated by an error of 10cm by some surveyor from long ago. Sad really, but sometimes it makes for good TV (if TV can be considered good at all).
I'll have to visit your YouTuber and see what's on offer since I never got into Picasso, just don't get him. Dali is another matter and Miró I'm not familiar with.
I have some errands to run so I hope to run into you again later. Cheers!

What's on in Andorra? You a skiing man? Always made efforts to skip Andorra on my way to Barcelona. Now, the countryside (North Spain to be shamefully generic) on the other side of Andorra does have some appeal for me lately, despite the rain and the grumpy farmers. It seems so quiet. Almost giving hope one might be able to disappear and even forget about oneself.
I had to dislike Picasso thoroughly, naturally, considering the narcissist (and commercial man) he pretty much is. But then two things happened in May. I found myself in front of a Picasso, hanging low, shoved into a dark corner, almost knocking it off the wall (a temporary spot in preparation for a massive renovation of the museum) and it talked to me. Then a month later, I happened to stumble upon a documentary - by Krabbé of all people, so somewhat staged and theatrical, and of interest therefore as one man worshipping another man - which spoke to me again. And in my effort to try and figure out the role men can ever have in SAVING this planet I did my very best to take a very fresh approach to Picasso (how much more stereotypical male can you get?) and I ended up bowing in respect to the driving force I found behind him - which has its limits in the person, but is astounding as an overall impulse.
When I was excluded from all further negotiations about MY garden fences on the grounds that I was a woman (they started arranging men's only meetings, can you believe it?) I really did think of calling Meester Visser. There was little more I felt I could do than consider it all an entertaining, ludicrous show.

Nothing that interesting about Andorra itself, but a good location to start from if one is looking for places that aren't particularly hot in the summer and aren't overrun with tourists. Next on my checklist would be Serbia and Croatia, but there language would be more of a problem for me. Anything based in Latin would give me a starting point I could build from, except French maybe, ha ha. Staying clear of the Rat race and climate would be the motivation for me.
I never looked into Picasso's history, I just never got his paintings and never understood what the big deal was. I'd much rather look at a Georgia O'Keeffe. As a kid I was regularly exposed to the Cobra collection in Venezuela (Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam ~ Karel Appel, Corneille and the likes) but never found much of interest there either. Maybe it was impression overload or that Karel Appel and Ayacas somehow didn't mix well for me at the time. Of course seeing the real thing up close will leave a very different impression, in that I had a similar experience viewing Jopie Huisman's paintings.
Did anything work out for you in that border dispute?
I think even Meester Visser gave up since he retired from refereeing neighbors (in public anyway). I sometimes go back to a fond memory of having 10 acres and a creek, but also realize that the isolation such a property brings can be too much. It's a bit of a catch 22...
