The Easiest Instrument to Play Music Right Away?

in music •  6 years ago

If you have never played music but always wanted to, maybe you should think about picking up a mandolin. Like any instrument, the mandolin takes years of dedicated practice to become a really good player. Unlike many instruments, however, you can pick up a mandolin for the first time, and be playing songs within minutes ( as long as it is already tuned up, of course).

While not all chords can be played with just 2 fingers, enough can that you can easily learn to strum chords for literally thousands of songs. And while the 2 fingered versions aren't the full chords needed to provide the characteristic rhythm "chops" that form the backbone of most bluegrass tunes, they are great for learning and messing around.

Start with these!

The high learning curve and amount of practice need with most instruments before passable music can be made is the main barrier that prevents people from learning to play, but with a mandolin, most folks can start playing tunes right away. With just 2 chords, you can play hundreds of simple songs - add a third and the number grows exponentially! Give it try, you can do it!

Always good to see anything related to the mandolin!

The difference between one string instrument, like a guitar, which I play, and another, like a ukulele, which I don't play, or like this one which I never heard of before, which you mentioned, is like the difference between an orange and a tangerine which the funny thing is my mom calls it like a small orange. Very interesting and very fun. Love music. Oatmeal Joey. Yeah, thanks for liking my nickname haha. I like Pink Spectre and it makes me think about James Bond and his spectrum or whatever. Very awesome.
