One of my new most loved groups, Alt-J heats up a great deal of power down into a firmly contained console based sound. The story goes that their style rose up out of playing in English college dormitories, where they needed to hold the uproarious commotions down. This track is a touch of an exception for the band, with its shaking edge, as well as the fiercely incongruent handgun-fight content. Somewhere else Alt-J will give you echoes of Fairport Convention, Genesis, Traffic, and even mid seventies Beach Boys. Cheers to them and to some other specialists trying to combine the exploratory with the standard like this.
