Jimi says at the begining of this clip that he was gonna play "All along the watch tower" but he forgot the words. You can tell what kind of mood he was in when he recorded this. People playing their own instruments - imagine. Epic.

I adore Jimi. Love his music, one of a kind!

There has never been nor will there ever be another Hendrix! His version of Hey Joe is my warmup piece! Check my blog from yesterday- there's a guy on there Daniele Liverani... Incredible (but not Hendrix!)

I remember learning that walking bass line that Jimi plays on guitar - Hey Joe was definitely a staple for my little high school band.. We all took our turn soloing on it.. SRV was probably the only guy who came close to channeling Jimis blues roots.. Modern day - maybe John Mayer (that's a big maybe)..

I was going to say the same thing about SRV... to me he's the only one to even come close! I got to see Jimi twice (I'm really old lol) Once in san Francisco in 66 or 67... Hows this for a show? Jimi, John Mayall & Bluesbreakers (with Mick taylor) Albert King & Big Brother (for $2.50) I saw him again at Atlanta Pop Festival in 70 or 71 Funny how dates get fuzzier the older I get!

And it still happens to be the best music ever made - you are a lucky guy to have been seen Jimi and Albert King..
John Mayall and the Blues breakers with Eric Clapton is one of my favorite albums of all time (Blind Faith was another superband that should have had more attention). I saw him in the 90s - hes still fantastic :)

Eric is the easiest guy to duplicate out there. I can figure out any of his stuff in about 5 mins! When I saw Jimi & Albert, Jimi was playing Albert's Flying V... he went out and got one after! The weird thing is- I never liked Jimi until I saw him live... I was blown away (the acid probably didn't hurt lol)

Eric played on the White Album.. I think that puts him in another class. I can figure out what all these guys are doing - its the curse of being a musician. Eric is a fantastic blues musician and one of the better acoustic blues artists (I like). The solo in the MTV unplugged version of "old love" is killer.

Have you ever checked out his band Powerhouse from the early 60's? I really like them! I started playing blues in 1954 (God that seems like there should have been ice covering the world or something). We used to have a blues club in the late 50's when we were in our early teens. Peter Wolf from J. Geils Band was in it. We had a couple of bands together. There was a huge blues crowd in Boston. Duke and the Drivers came out of it... James Montgomery Band (he had a guitarist named Peter Malick that I taught who moved to LA and made a fortune in studios) and others. Boston became a big blues scene in the 60's

I didnt know Boston had a big blues scene in the 60's! Its the music that drove me to learn the Guitar in the 80s.. I remember rewinding audio cassettes and playing them again to figure stuff out.. It wasnt until Youtube became popular that I began seeing what these guys look like and eating up all the live performances. The internet may have killed the music industry - but it has provided me with a lot of joy!
