Female Arab Singers of the 40's and 50's: A Brief Survey of Diversity

When people think of Arab music, they often think about something that sounds beautiful but rather generic and of Islamic influence only. In other words many listeners might say that Arab music is all the same and more importantly, the genre's singers are equally all the same. But upon careful examination -nothing could be further from the truth:

"Leyla Murad" was a Cairo born Jewish girl who became so famous in the Arab world, that her fame and notoriety at times, rivaled that of Um Kalthum, although it never eclipsed it:

"Asmahan" was a druze woman from Lebanon who was equally well regarded:

"Dalida" was an Italian-Egyptian artist who was also quite popular. She was born in Alexandria

I love this! I work with a girl called Rotana from Saudi Arabia who's doing some big things in music. She would love this! :)
