The Prodigy Sampled A Czechoslovak Singer From A Communist Era

in music •  6 years ago

A recent discovery shows that The Prodigy's recent track Light Up The Sky includes a sample from Jiri Schelinger - Mam Rad Lidi (trans. I Like People) - see link below.

I have been sampling music all my life and this is certainly the biggest sampling sensation for me as a Czech citizen. The Prodigy sampled this guy playing during communist era in Czechoslovakia from 1977. The reason this is sensational for me is because there were no other people in the world listening to this kind of music except the heavily isolated Czechoslovakia.

I mean, how does Liam Howlett come up with ideas because I have never even heard this song in my life. Also, the main sample is in the middle of the song so that means Liam Howlett must have actually listened to it for at least 1 minute and 14 seconds!

What can I say - brilliant powerful track and great work from The Prodigy again.

Fun fact: There is a rumour that Jiri Schelinger was considered by Black Sabbath as a replacement for Ozzy Osbourne!
