One of the biggest "massed singings" of a national song

in music •  8 years ago  (edited)

Shortly after the death of King Rama IX of Thailand last year, I was invited to conduct the Thai Royal Anthem in front of the Grand Palace, where the King has been lying in state. So many people volunteered to sing and play that we ended up with a 200 piece orchestra and over a hundred chorus ... plus all the people who were gathered there ... it was an astonishing moment ... an incredible outpouring of grief and communality (by some counts) 200,000 or more people all singing as one.

Beautiful.
Crowd estimate?

There've been a number of estimates, starting at 150,000+, I also think some were counting connecting streets, some weren't.
