Motivating Focus

Having lessons from a good teacher, sets you on a plan for what you need to work on. That is one of the good things about going to a teacher, It gives you discipline and focus on what you need to learn. By spending money on your learning, that gives you the drive to work at it because our utilitarian money self always likes to get our moneys worth. When we get something for free, we generally don't value it. I have paid a lot of money over the years on my lessons, i regard it as money well spent. Having the discipline to do it yourself is really hard. Everyone has a different way of learning. When i say " i see what your getting at" that the visual way of learning, when i say "I hear what your what your saying" thats the auditory way of learning. If i say " i don't feel what your telling me is right" Thats the sense of touch or our gut reaction. So we all have our proffered manner of learning. A good teacher can gage that in a student and teach in a more appropriate way. I remember a book seller telling me that if he prices the book higher people will value it more. i bought a book from him for $50.00 and i have read it at least 5 times. so when we invest time and money into something, our utilitarian side will always want to get our moneys worth out of it. It comes down to how much we value something, If you truly want to get better at your music you will invest the time into, you can get a lot of things on the internet for free and there are thousands of self taught musicians out there but in my experience, I value good instruction. A big cheer goes out to my teacher Kris Schulz of the Horizon School of Music !
