Music to many, is what brings out the soul in them. Life would seem dull and colourless without a dose of music. Some like it to start the day, some while commuting to work, some while studying or being attentive, some while unwinding, others while exercising and some even while meditating. Music speaks across spectrums. We can agree that people love their music and know just when to listen to them. What makes it that much easier to have our favourite music at our convenience is the now popular and thriving music Apps, that each one of us can have on our smartphones.

There are many available in the market today. What I’d like to bring to attention is two of the popular ones, having used them over the years and they are – Spotify and SoundCloud. I've dabbled in them over the past, and would like to compare them and select the better one. They’re both winners anyway as they duly serve their purpose. But definitely there can be one that stands out by some accounts. Let’s have a look at what makes them unique and useful.

Looking back at when I was using each of these music services, it had been as I said, over the years and we shall look at where they've come to. SoundCloud for one was popular for podcasts and radio shows. Music selection was a little sparse. Spotify, for when I started listening to it had pretty cool stations with good tunes. Certainly music to the ears - no pun intended. Spotify was truly ahead.

However, over time, and as having been switching amongst the two and observing them, and using them as well to suit my music taste, I’ve found that they have come quite a long way. Spotify from what I observed, that had desirable tracks in their stations, were over time limited to the number of stations that they offered, more so the choice of music and tracks that one could listen to.

SoundCloud on the other hand has come up with many ranges of stations and selections of music. I sometimes seem spoilt for choice listening to them. These are clear changes to SoundCloud. And as to where listening pleasure is concerned too, SoundCloud for what it seems as to now, has far fewer ads. For what that pops up is maybe a graphic ad or two, rather sparsely, as I may say for now; with no interruption to listening pleasure.

Whilst Spotify is 'riled' with audio ads, and certainly breaks that 'attunement' that you may be having with your music. The ads may seem catchy or interactive or sound abit merry, but in my opinion, what’s more of a rhythm-killer in between some tantalizing music – than this. The music selection too by the way could do better, with often lower quality music being played. Not the true 'premium' selections, for some of the genres.

Speaking about premium, we do understand that these music services do have paid options, and yes that's where ad-free listening comes in and things like offline listening, and a wider selection of music. For those who find it reasonable, it’s a good choice taking them up and enjoying the benefits. As for picking a winner among the two, I’d go with SoundCloud for the music selection and how far it’s come. There's one minor flaw in it’s phone App though, that it doesn’t remember the last track you listened on a playlist and continue from where you last left off, if you launch it again.

Perhaps these music services ought to learn something from one another and ride on what advantages they both have. In the name of quality user experience and for the love of music. They’re both a revolution nevertheless bringing our favourite music right in our hands. Let’s see it enlivening our moments further, and towards good music for everyone.
