Three Monday's later and it is time for big band rehearsal 3 and a PARKING TICKET!?!? 🤯

Rehearsal 3:

I didn't have fun. I wasn't prepared and I'll admit it because it makes me sound less like a bad bass play. Actually, that's a amateur premise. A good bass player is already prepared. This is one of the many lessons we learn in big band.

Music is so cool, it should be free... NOT!

Speaking of lessons learned, look what this broadcast viewer said:

Eventually, we wanted to sound like a college band or professional big band.

I guess I have the difficult songs. Most of them have written bass parts and revolving time signatures. When bass charts have lots of notes without chord signatures, it is perceived to be more difficult. That's not alway the case, but I'm flexible. I'll find out when I dig in and start learning the bass chart more.

Warning, the following is a weird excuse, not a tangent. The following is not a healthy practice.

🐈💨 🐢 I didn't practice because my love has suddenly decided we need to rehabilitate a traumatized, 10 year old cat with agoraphobia and amnesia. A house cat. I've never had a house only cat. This cat was coheres upon our home. It can't go back. I consider the damage done and we will deal with it. Sending our new friend back to his 6 month cage would be more traumatic and spiritually questionable.

I didn't practice as much as I hoped I would. Remember, hope is the belief that something might or might not occur. I'll have faith next week. At least I got those copies done and there will be a second bass player from now on.

On a musically related bright side, I've been forced to buy this anti urine marking spay and I'm bringing it to rehearsal to share with the drummer. He has cat peepee issues sometimes.

One of @steelparade's little cat friends has been pissing inside his hardware bag. Smells like a spammy over valued meme post's butt crack. I'll just put it here on his music stand so that it's ready for the next few songs I play.

As a sign of gratitude he showed me the advanced big band drum technique seen in the image below.

Parking and traffic:

It's your lucky day. I have nothing to say about traffic.

Like usual, I paid for parking. I get back to my car and take this traditional parking receipt picture.

It's it magical? Does it look like it's worth $45? Anyway, I finish big band rehearsal and when I got back to my car I found a parking TICKET attached to the windshield. So, here is a modified parking ticket version of the traditional parking receipt image. Does this image look like it's worth $45?

It's my fault. I was taking a picture of the parking receipt I had just acquired and I didn't place it up on the dash board where the meeter maid can see it. Lesson learned, because that is gonna be a large unexpected expense for the budget.

Big Band expenses:

This is what I said in part 1 about expenses:

I came up with $9.15 last time. The expenses for this rehearsal 3 will be record breaking. First, add $9.15 to $6 for the gas and parking. Now, slap on a $45 parking ticket!

Students jacking students, wtf!

I left the receipt right there on the center console area and that is considered "not properly displayed." It's was still easy to see. Maybe they are legally forbidden to peer inside people's vehicles without probably cause?

Homework from Rehearsal 2:

I found this combo amp. I think this style (combo) is best for what we do here. The angle is great as a stage monitor.

That image above is from SweetWater catalogue. I took the picture to remind me of what amp I want them to buy. I'm not sure if I'm sticking with this one, but it's a start. More on this later.

NEW: What is Big Band?

This is a new topic I might add to this Big Band series. I hope this image features some answers you might have about big band.

The guitars and piano on the right make up part of the "rhythm section." They keep the chord structure and harmonies anchored with their focus on rhythm. The Trombones and Saxophones on the left play melody and solo and rhythm. Both sections need to be responsible for time and harmony, but everyone has their focus too.
