Metal Weekend: The age of big hair

in music •  7 years ago

Do you remember when every metal band seemed to have big hair? That was just a thing in the 80s. Sometimes it was hard to tell the guys from the girls from the back. I can promise you I never had a poodle perm.

#MetalWeekend was started by @detlev. See his post.

Here's a prime example with David Coverdale and one of the many incarnations of Whitesnake.

The band looked a little different earlier on.

Whitesnake

Another feature of 80s metal was synths. Here's a prime example from Swedish rockers Europe with singer Joey Tempest looking very girly.

One of the biggest band back then, and still going, was Bon Jovi. Just stay away from naked flames guys!

Worth it

Rock on!

Still love Whitesnake, Especially with Adje van den Berg (Dutch guitarplayer played in Whitesnake)... Gosh, what a glamour time it was back then :)

2015, just before I shaved it all off.

Not quite as flamboyant as Tempest or Bon Jovi. Wish I had used hairspray to get maximum volume for the photo!

Some cracking tracks from that era.

Wow. That's a good head of hair. Did you grow it back?

I decided against growing it back for now. Stupidly, I never really liked how it looked so I tied it back a lot. I'd do something better with it if I ever grew it again that's for sure!

Never had hair this big either, though it was bigger than it currently is.

Love the L'oreal ad, haha!

I wish I had hair :)

I wonder how many of them have kept their locks into their latter years.

Never could let my hair grow out. It is just to hot here in the south and it would always be in the way. Compare Bon Jovi to then and now, a big difference.

I remember that time so well - you should handle a #haircontest - #showyourhead - could be funny :-)

I had a perm in 1989 (once was enough) - and I wasn't a metalhead. Here it's almost grown out:

Sometimes it was hard to tell the guys from the girls from the back.

Ha, ha, ha @steevc. You sound like my mum.

Sadly I did have a poodle perm! 😂

What was the big hit that Europe had. I really like it I think?

Final Countdown was probably their biggest. Rock the Night was another I remember. Looks like they are still going

Final Countdown was the one I was thinking of Steevc. I think I have the single somewhere. 😊

which I remember from the legendary metal band is in addition to long hair is also a jacket that is used a la rock and roll, as well as unique shoes. metal band reminds me of band from germany that is scorpion, gun n roses, metalica, bon jovi and etc.

I just remember even they are very adept at playing, a different instrument with the current era that just playing music that has been on the program through the computer I think it is very bad for the music generation who love art.

metal song is my genre and I'm really happy to hear it especially when it's in the morning, it makes me excited about the day's activities.

thanks for your article remember me of the time when I was a school who loves to listen to metal songs. you rock.! regards

The best of the best, for me :
