I am currently building an acoustic guitar with the theme of the Holy city of Jerusalem for a Christian guitarist who holds the Bible and the Holy land very dear.
A very Biblical guitar back on the theme of Jerusalem. Inscribed on the book is Isiah 62:1
"For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as the brightness and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth."
I was slightly uncertain about the biblical quotation at first as I didn't really understand what it meant - so I went to talk to my friend Or Zohar who is a rock n roll rabbi, and we discussed the meaning of this passage. I also had quite a long time to meditate on it as I attempted to write on the oily cypress wood with a variety of pens, trying to get the letters to stick.
So as I understand it, what Isiah is talking about here, and what he goes on to say is that there will come a time when the people of Jerusalem will be so good and righteous that instead of it being the desolate city that it is now, with all the different 'kingdoms' fighting about who it belongs to and such, they will all triumph... ie. They will ALL win, not one gaining victory by defeating the others...
...then he goes on to describe how God will be so pleased when this happens that the city of Jerusalem will be a 'crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord' and it will also get a new name. It will be called 'Heftzibah' which means 'My delight is in her'.
Good news, all in all!

If you take a close look you'll see some little people gathered around at the bottom of the wall. Really, it was to give a sense of scale and movement.
Interestingly, the customer asked me not to put any religious symbols. I like that.

Thanks Breana. Very kind of you to say so. I enjoy working on unusual commissions the most. It gives me the chance to try things I may not have thought of myself.
