Educating Steem: How to play the BLUES, Session I

in music •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hey Steemers!

I've been wanting to do this for awhile. My goal is to teach Steemers in love with music how to play the BLUES! This is volume one. In this session, I will go over some basic music theory of the basic 1-4-5 progression so that you can play the BLUES in all keys of music. Next, I teach how to start playing the blues, the way I learned back in college!

Hope everyone enjoys. There are a few mistakes when I am telling you which fret to play, and I said G once when I meant E. I think it is pretty easy to follow along. Let me know how I can improve in teaching or if you like it.

Cheers!

I bet it's hard to get the facial expressions right :-)

Haha there are just some things you can't teach, and that would for sure be one of them! Thanks for watching man. If you have a guitar get it out and try a few licks.! If you play the blues, your face just might start feeling the pain of the music.

I am just an accompanist (percussionist) - but I have accompanied many a blues session.

"JUST". That is awesome. I've tried percussion a few times, but for some reason it is so hard for me. Maybe that is why i play by myself a lot. I was classically trained on the violin so the guitar was so much easier with frets. You should post a music video sometime. That would be sweet!

I could play blues all day. There's always something to learn and I learned a few things from this video. I like those little riffs around the chords. Looking forward to the other lessons.

Really glad you were able to learn a few things. I will get you playing some easy riffs by the 3rd session, maybe the second haha. The first one will always be less exciting, but essential. Thanks for taking the time to watch!

@tfeldman u really have a nice flow with hands...I play guitar also, but not that really well and I have been trying to learn blues playing for couple of days now. I think I am going to watch your video over and over again, so I could learn and add your progression to the basic once I already rehearsed. Nice video✌
I just followed you

Awesome, appreciate the feedback and I hope you can learn something. I will try to post another in the next week or two. Practice up, you got this!

Yeah, thanks @tfeldman, I will try to keep up

That was fun, might have to dust off my guitar and get my callouses back!

Started following you so I can see the series ;) One request for future videos, can you change the camera angle by maybe raising it up so we can see the neck better? You're playing a lot of stuff, but narrowly focused on your topic, which is good, but this way if we like something you play, but it's not part of your particular topic at hand, if we can see what you're doing we can figure out that part we liked on our own.

Either way, look forward to the next video!

Awesome man. Thanks for the critiques. I was jamming a little more because I don’t typically teach. The parts where I jam the most I’m trying to teach the theory of music and less note for note. Not trying to do an exact “how to play each note” more of “ how to create blues music.” The note for note I teach are for sure important when I show them.

Give it some time. By the 3rd video you we be playing some blues!

It's all good. You showed the neck when you were specifically talking about what you were doing.

I was just also listening to what your fingers were saying to me too and wanted to be able to interpret lol ;)

I tried to play guitar when I was in College but apparently, my fingers broke into pieces. heheh. but I love this video.

haha in the blues if your fingers don't bleed, it doesn't count! Now get out your old guitar and play the blues man! Haha glad you enjoyed man, stay tuned for more.

Yes, so inspiring to see your techniques on how to play the blues. Thumbs up!

nice one there, I'm loving this Steemit, seeing I can even develop my music experience here nice lesson there @tfldman

Glad you liked man! Hope you learn a thing or two.

What? Hope you enjoyed the video man.

hoho there are just some things you can't teach, and that would for sure be one of them! Thanks for watching man. If you have a guitar get it out and try a few licks.! If you play the blues, your face just might start feeling the pain of the music.

I’m not sure why you just copied and pasted one of my comments...

If you thought it was a good comment or something rock on. Hope you learned something from the video.
