STEEMIT ONLY: Migos write songs in 20 MINUTES!?!? Really???

in music •  7 years ago

In a recent conversation with Pigeons & Planes, DJ Durel spoke about his experience recording Culture II with the Atlanta trap trio known as Migos. The amount of time they spent on each track was surprisingly short: 20 to 45 minutes or so. These are my thoughts on the matter, and make sure to leave yours in the comments!

Sort Order:

Twenty minutes seems like an appropriate amount of time to work out the arrangement on a Migos track:

10 minutes on the hi-hat
5 minutes on the lyrics
1 minute finding a stock bass sound.
0 minutes adjusting stock bass sound.
Record.
Profit.

LOOL 10 min on the hi hat 5 minutes on the lyrics ..
Sums up most 2018 rap so far.

lol! that's the formula, i guess! :-D

Verified in double blind testing.

Man it's so rad you are on here dude. Still can't get over it. Pretty sure we are living in the future.

Most rappers seem to go for this one take acapella style.. I remember a young thug interview where he was talking about how he rarely does more than one take, cause it sounds more unique and real. I know of some rappers that don't even write down their verses.

Idk if "it's going to come out perfect" though... most songs on culture 2 were kinda trash.

I think some of the best songs are certainly more meticulously written.

or at least the artist was like "let me try something new" instead of just spamming the same shit over and over again
some of the songs on this project were blatantly redundant as anyone can see
i think songs like fight night, that were hitting rly hard and gained mainstream success were recorded fast as well
but it felt like it was kinda special, with takeoff on the hook and the beat and so on

and surely some songs still got the juice like stir fry but a lot of shit just falls flat

yeah man migos sounded like something new, different, when they first came out. Now they can't stop doing the same shit so it gets boring

I've never listened to Migos but from what I've managed to piece together from other people and such, they really aren't making music for me, haha. Also, from what I've heard about them, spending 15 minutes to write a song seems about right, haha.

Interesting post, as someone who reads into the hip hop genre daily this is absolute news to me. I would expect and hour+ on each song. Great post.

Thank you for making steemit less cancer, Anthony. Love u

Thanks, what does that mean?

20 min to make a song, thats cool. Thats probably going to be me soon. I do instant unrehearsed freestyles. I do one a day. Check me out. Heres todays freestyle.

Their music is too shallow for any considerable time to be spend on songs, more rappers carried by production.

Migos are hard working artists trust me. They go in. I'm talking 5-600 songs just for one project. They probably don't write much when they are actually in the lab. I can respect it because they came with a new type of flow, thats different, thats hip hop. Is it my type of flow or music? Sometimes but not really.. but they are dope tho.. and I don't necessarily think they are the best group.... you gotta remember Bone Thugs, and even the Fugees who sold over 24 million records with one album! and Still selling til this day!
