Three Days Grace - Nu Metal from Canada

in music •  7 years ago

Hello Steemians,

as they released their new album Outsider today, I thought it's a good chance to introduce this awesome band to the steemit-folk. The genre "Nu Metal" was always something like Disturbed, P.O.D. or Korn for me. If you don't know this genre-name, let's call it post-grunge or alternative-metal.

As already written, Three Days Grace released their new album "Outsider" today! So for the beginning, let's start with a new song before we come to the band-history:

The Mountain - prereleased for the new album

TDG was founded in Norwood, Ontario in 1997 by Adam Gontier (lead vocalist), Neil Sanderson (drums and backing vocals) and Brad Walst (bass). The bands most impressing characteristic was the raw but awesome voice of Adam Gontier mixed with powerful chords and beats. Unfortunately Gontier left the band in 2013 and took a part of the heart and soul of the band with him.

So the voice you hear in the song above is from new vocalist Matt Walst (the brother of bassist Brad). He joined the band after Gontier left in 2013 and this is the second album with Walst as lead singer and he also does a great job! But nobody - really nobody - has a voice like Adam Gontier.

With Adam Gontier:

One of the most famous songs is definitely "I Hate Everything About You" from their first album in 2003. This song became labelled as the bands "breakout hit" and got the band their first record deal with Jive Records. With Gontier 4 album were released and I love every single one:

  • 2003: Three Days Grace
  • 2006: One-X
  • 2009: Life Starts Now
  • 2012: Transit Of Venus

It's really hard to choose a song, representative for the time with Adam Gontier because all songs are awesome. If you want a ballad check out the song Never too late from the album One-X. If you want a heavier song, listen to Riot from the same album or to Break which I'll pin below.

Gontier left the band "to move on and to continue to evolve on my own terms. I could not be more grateful for all the souls who have travelled along with me.". You can read his full statement here. He founded the new band Saint Asonia in 2015 with which he already released an album in the same year. To be honest, his voice was the really unique thing that Three Days Grace made so special. Some songs of Saint Asonia sound more like the old Three Days Grace as the songs with the new singer Matt Walst do. Anyway, it still is great music, so read on!

Break from the album Life Starts Now

With Matt Walst:

After Gontier left, Mark Walst (from My Darkest Days) joined the band. He also has a great voice which fits to the music, so it's still high-quality-music which I listened in the past and which I will follow up in the future. From 2013 on Three Days Grace released now 2 new album:

  • 2015: Human
  • 2018: Outsider

I Am Machine from the album Human

I already inhaled the new album Outsider this morning and I really can recommend to listen to it! 12 great songs with the known power of TDG and the raw voice of Walst.
You can find their tourdates on their website linked here. They will be on the road with fucking Shindown, Seether, Avenged Sevenfold and Prophets of Rage!

Long story short: if you like this kind of music you should follow up Three Days Grace and Saint Asonia

Also, It's nice to see that "The Mountain" has already 7 million views on Youtube. Pretty amazing for a non-hip hop song.
