Playing at the jamsession yesterday made me feel bluesy today. Like musicians know, often at jamsessions the 'band' falls into a blues scheme... So everybody get's the chance to improvise a bit :)
I like blues a lot, it tells a story and give a expression to the music.. One of the biggest blues legends (well known) is B.B. King, this next video is a great example of two worlds of guitar and music comming together. Watch the facial expression of B.B. when Gary goes banana's with the solo :)
I visited a concert of Tina Turner way back, when the concert was finished the speaker anounced a extra concert of Tina in Utrecht with support act Gary Moore.
This concert was in the time of his blues album. I had to go there so I bought me a ticket. Although Gary isn't a blues guitarist of origin he just makes his guitar cry.... His touch and feeling is just incredible.
I recall the concert (both Tina and Gary) were just amazing..... I remember the key-player of Gary playing a big hammond organ with a leslie speaker which turned around for the 'floating' sound.... The good old blues keys.....
But blues and it's legend go way back. B.B. King has been around for a long time....
A guitarist I only know for some time now is popa chubby, a awesome guitarist. It is more a bit of blues rock, hendrix... but just as great as ...his sound is awesome, playing a old worn out stratocaster...
One of the more modern guitarist who can play the blues too is of course John Mayer with his trio.....
He get's a bit of SRV if you ask me....
A guy who knows blues probably blues like no other (her learned from the best) is Joe Bonamassa. When he was 12 he already toured with B.B. King.... besides a gifted player he always mentions that BB King was the one who gave him his career while I think he would have managed very fine himself ;) ...
Although most of this guitarist are very technical, in blues it is not abiout being technical...it is about the emotion, the feeling, the pain....which will sound right through the music.....
Blues is still alive.....for me and for many others...
Have a great evening,
Peter
Ah, I always drift bank into a bit of blues after a metal chugging!

You can spend a lifetime learning blues. Shame Gary and BB are gone, but they achieved a lot.
Did you see I created a guitar community? Would be cool to get some posts like this in it. Not sure if you can add it afterwards.

Not many of the old blues guys left now, but later generations keep it alive.

I love the sound of a Hammond B3. There used to be a show on public radio called Organized and it was all organ music. Jeff Healey is one of my favorite blues guitarists. Kenny Wayne Shepard was pretty great too.
