My father was always a big fan of symphonic rock. In my youth he was 'amateur manager' of a sympho band in Utrecht, the Netherlands called Arkus.
We often went with him to rehearsals of gig's in the neighbourhood. For us (me and my oldest brother) it was Always great to be 'part of the band'.
In my youth a big part of my musical interest was formed by the music my father listened and it still is cause i still do listen to that music.
A while ago I met up with some friends and we discuss music. A subject of which you never finish talking... In this talk I mentioned Camel, a british Symphonic Rock band from the 70's. This was one of the bands that my father used to play at home on a Sunday morning with the volume at 100 :). (poor neighbours). I'd remember the album "pressure points" which I later bought in CD (and now in my spotify favorites).
Years later, I already was living together with my wife, I saw an ad online that there was a Camel concert in Paradiso Amsterdam. I called my brother straight away and told him that we should buy tickets to see them live in Amsterdam and that we had to keep it a suprise for our father. So we did just that, we told him that we where picking him up but didn't tell him where we went.... How big was the suprise when we arrived at Amsterdam and he saw the billboard of Camel...... Something to never forget....
Although Camel has much great songs there is one song that has a special place for me, Drafted. The reason why is cause that night at the Camel gig, my brother and I wen't to get some drinks for the three of us. While we we're on our way back they started to play drafted. We came back with the drinks and saw are father leaning at the wall, listening with great attention.....suddenly there was a little tear over his cheeks..... This song moved him so much.... It was special to see and never to forget... That's why drafted has a special place for me.... and it is realy one of the greatest guitarsounds I've ever heard.
Enjoy..
