Some fine basses

in music •  6 years ago

As you all know (or almost all) I love bassplaying a lot and can really enjoy some fine instruments, not only by their playing (I haven't play them all), but also from the looks of the instrument. In this post I will share some basses from which I think they are really amazing.

Yamaha RBX John Myung signature serie

This is a rather older model from Yamaha. The bass is made in signature of Dream Theater's John Myung. It is a six string bass which makes it possible for John to play double guitar parts together with John Petrucci. I really love the pearl inlay, so much that I have the same inlay in my custom made bass.

Fender Pino Palladino Signature Precision Bass

Pino Palladino is one of my all time heroes. The ease whith which he plays and the harmonics he uses.. Really stunning. He has his ow Fender Signature precision bass. For me Fender is the absolute No1 bass-brand... Fender does have a lot of artists under signature. mostly Jazz models though.

Warwick T.M. Stevens Signature

T.M. Stevens is for sure the most extravagant bassplayer and you can see that in his instruments. He had endorsements with Cort and Warwick. His basses are full of little gadgets in effect form like a autowhah etc. The action (space between the strings and the neck) is very low, that's why his sound is so HiFi.

Fodera Victor Wooten signature

Victor Wooten is most known for his Ying-Yang basses from the American bass-crafter Fodera. It has a warm funky sound, although of course also the way he plays it makes the sound.

Jaco Pastorius Frettless bass

the most beautiful bass of them all is the bass from Jaco Pastorius. and that is because of the story behind it. Jaco is the absolute king of bass, he influenced alsmost any bassplayer in modern music. His sound is so typical because of his playing an the bass being fretless (no metall strips aover the neck). It makes the instrument sing.

Fender basses has released a Jaco Pastorius Tribut bass made in their own customshop. The made the bass exactly as Jaco played it, with all the scratches, rusty nails and with sweat pulled into the wood. They did an excellent job copying Jaco's original bass for the real fans, price is from 12.000 euro ?!?!....

Have a great sunny day

Hello @verhp11 loved your post!! Nice basses!!!!
One love

Thank you very much !!

Very cool! I like the one with the awesome artwork on it. I was just thinking the other day that maybe I should try to learn to play bass before I learn to play guitar. I mean it has two less strings so it is probably way easier to learn right? :)

It can be easier, it is all about how and what you want to play. You can just accompany a blues song with some simple base-tones in bass or make a real "walking bass" bassline. But if you eventually want to play the guitar I would start straight away with the guitar. Chords, way of playing and a lot of theory is way different. I wouldn't say that if you learned bass that it would be easy to adapt the guitar. Vice versa perhaps less difficult.

Thanks! I was being funny :) I know it takes a lot of skill to play the bass. I have much respect for all musicians and how they can hone and excel at their crafts! Always a pleasure to read your posts!

haha no problem :) And thank you very much !!

Well thank you very much !!

There are some amazing basses out there. It seems some bassists are more open to different designs than most guitarists.

What a load of c...

Never thought of it, but I think you're right. A lot of bassplayers do have some different designs, body's compared to guitarists..
