Hello, steemians! Let's talk about different audio signal levels today.
Mainly there are 4 signal levels.
1] Mic level:
Audio signal coming from mics(obviously) is called Mic level signal. Lowest of all, the mic level signal is about -60 to -40 dBV. It requires a preamp to bring it up to a certain level for further processing.
2] Instrument level:
Electric guitar or Bass spits out Instrument level signal. It's around -20 to -15 dBV. This signal also requires amplification for further processing.
3] Line level:
This is the highest level of a signal before amplification. Almost all the audio hardware operates at this level. There are 2 types of line level signals: one is the consumer level which is around -10dBV and other is professional level which is +4dBu. Mixing desks, preamps and other signal processing equipment operate at professional line level.
4] Speaker level:
It's the signal emitted by the speaker. This is the highest level amongst all 4. The signal level is measured in dB SPL and is controlled by the user according to his/her wish.
