Greetings We Are Change Colorado community!
With spring well under way and the final snowy spurts of winter making their signature Colorado exit we bring you the April open mic!
Last month was a really great gathering and we're looking to keep that magical energy flowing into this next one. Check out Anthony Berenguel's Facebook post of all the beautiful photos he took. Thanks for doing that Anthony!
This month we are happy to bring you a great local headliner in Los Mocochetes and our live interviewee Erik Lawyer who has been doing "the great work" for a long time running.
LIVE INTERVIEW
We originally met Erik through his efforts to expose the government cover up of 9/11 in founding the group Firefighters for 9/11 Truth. His original focus was on the blatant disregard of the National Sandards for Fire Investigation in the investigation of the events of 9/11 by official government agencies. Hundreds of first responders have signed a petition to reopen the investigation demanding proper proceedure be followed to answer the many looming and yet unanswered questions surrounding the events of that day. Erik has moved on from administering the group but it has continued on in good faith with the hopes of uncovering the truth. You can find the website here.
He is now pursuing very different approaches to his pursuit of truth. In 2014 We Are Change Colorado mirrored an event he began in Seattle, WA of a bringing together of thoughts, feelings, and actions called ONE The Event: Love, Rhythm, Action at Sunrise Ranch in Loveland, CO. It was a huge success for us with guest speakers like Adam Kokesh (@adamkokesh), Christina Tobin, and Tony Stiles, as well as a Rhythm Sanctuary ecstatic dance and musical guest Wandering Monks.
Erik's latest project is called OneCorps, which he describes as a unified service force for local regional regeneration. He hopes to create a unified group capable of manifesting positive changes in localized communities. This is still a very new idea and we are excited to hear more about it at the live interview!
HEADLINER
For our fabulous headliner to close out the night we have Los Mocochetes!!
A great collective of talented musicians Diego Flores, Elias Garcia, and Joshua Abeyta, their band plays what they call chicano funk: "thoughtfully brazen, socio/politically charged song lyrics, groovilicious melodies and high-energy stage antics to create an immersive experience unlike anything you've ever seen before."
Yeah, we can't wait to hear them either! This will be a night to dance and play! It's been a while since we had a full band on stage so be sure not to miss this one...
AND OF COURSE...
This open mic is nothing without YOU! We do this for you, for the community, to shine, to be heard, to be seen, to be loved for who and what you are. Everything you bring to our stage makes it better. Try out your brand new poems, dust off those old tunes, retell your stories for us, we want to hear them!
