An Oddball Ball

in music •  6 years ago  (edited)

We played for the Zoo Ball the other night. It is one of their annual fundraising events and I must tell you it is a most unusual ball. Most everyone is dressed in tux, suits, evening dresses, and gowns. We play for a couple of hours while champagne, cocktails, and Hors d' oeuvres are served. We interact with the crowd and enjoy the presentations of the chef as well. The zookeepers bring in animals throughout the evening. During our part of the evening, they brought in a snake, bird, and turtle with which the guest can have an up-close personal experience and with a knowledgeable handler. After cocktails and drinks they go on to another building for dinner and dancing. It turned out to be a beautiful evening.

Because of predicted rain, we played inside and the sound of the drums isn't what I had hoped but I couldn't resist showing you our new drum loving fan...Mr. Turtle in his bow tie. He definitely left his mark on the floor and in our hearts and almost Julie's ankle.

We will be playing at the zoo again in two weeks, June 27th, for what is called "Moonlight On The Mountain". We have opened the event since it started about 13 years ago. I just checked and it is sold out again. Another very fun evening.

(Sorry for the lack of sound with the turtle. I think I know what happened now...still learning.)

Looks and sounds like a lot of fun !

Do ya'll have video online of your drum circle playing ?

Not really even though we've been playing over 20 years. I have to put videos on YouTube to get a URL for the steemit site. I have put some on YouTube that I haven't used, you will probably find it under Janet Divitto. I don't take this hobby to seriously anymore.

Ah.... ok

So... what hobby has taken it's place? ;)

Here is one from 2008. I'm the one playing the djunun (with sticks).

It was taken by one of the dancers children.

Ohh... .that was fun to watch.

Grands are the best !

Politics... ugh... ha ha

Sorry, I forgot to answer your main question. I can't really say I took up another hobby except for our granddaughter and health issues and some politics. I'm replacing the politics for steemit.

That turtle can move way faster than I thought! Strong too!

I know, I was surprised. I'm sure it was the drums :-)

Yes! I bet you are right! They really are moving!! :)

The turtled was so sweet and the playing great. It made me smile:)

I'm glad it made you smile. It makes us smile too. The turtle was definitely wide awake. If I wasn't playing I would have taken more photos.

It was a music lover. They live so long. They must be rather intelligent:)

I think so too.

It looks like an amazing event to play at, I really enjoyed the drums and also that speedy turtle - it can’t half move!

We were really surprised that he wanted to be with the drummers in the big venue. He could have gone anywhere in the building but chose us. I think he is very old which makes him smart and loves our rhythms...lol. It was a funny night.

Looks like a very grand event.

It was a lot grander than I showed. I didn't have time to walk around and take photos.

LOL cute turtle I hope that they are feeding it good :) @willowwisp

They take very good care of the animals here. It is a rather unique zoo because it is built into the side of a mountain. They have a chair lift that can take you to the top. I will write more about this zoo in another post.

Its really nice evening for you and Turtle too.

Yes, I have to agree the turtle looked like he was having a good time and he maybe he liked the drumming too!

We had a lot of fun with the turtle's admiration for us.

How cool is that i would really enjoy been at one of those events well played and awesome to see the animals getting into also :)

Thank you hangin. It seemed a little wrong to get paid for having fun.

Haha...that makes it more fun getting paid for having fun the perfect job...lol :)

A turtle in a bow tie now I have seen everything LOL, what an interesting event to play at and how cool with the next event wow 13 years thats impressive

A turtle in a bow tie that loves drumming...can't get any cuter than that.

For sure that video did make me smile and thanks I needed that

How do the animals respond to the music and vibrations? Were the snakes charmed?

I don't know. We were surprised in his persistent interest but had a good time watching him want to be with us. The peacocks usually have a lot to say when we play...maybe they don't like it and we just don't know how to interpret their squawking. The snake wasn't phased but I'm sure he loved it...how could he not...lol!

Hahaha! Very funny! The turtle wanted to join in with the drummers!
What a fabulous and civilized party with champagne!!
I would definitely get very tipsy!

Cheers.

We were in a pretty big venue where he could go where he wanted and he wanted to be with the drummers. We had to laugh.

Oh, you really are having fun here. Well, as much fun as possible. Oh, how sweet is that turtle! It has been a while and I will still bet that your heart is all in it. I loved the video from 2008.

Oh, you were so awesome!
