The Rhythms Are Everywhere

in music •  5 years ago  (edited)

My first American African drumming teacher, Stuart Dinwoodie, told me one can hear the rhythms all day and everywhere in the villages. How could that be...everywhere...all day and with no electricity? I didn't understand what he meant until I came across this video that totally helped me get it. Yes, the video is 10 minutes long but is exceptionally well done and shows how the the rhythms we play are actually words and how the village moves in rhythm. I hope you like it as much as I do. I've had all my students watch it. It may give you more respect for the music. You will see all five parts played and the words the rhythm represents as well as the dance that goes with this particular rhythm and village life.
