We're all trying to share the very best talent we have to offer and hope for the loudest applause!
When we're passionate about that special thing we believe we're good at, we're more prone to get
hurt by a friend offering constructive criticism. Strangely, we react unscathed to the harsher
comments made by strangers that shout out comments or one liners like "You suck!" or
"Forget about quitting your day job!".
The difference between constructive criticism and the Mr. Jones of critics, is actually very subtle in terms of judgement. Constructive is a positive term we use to suggest improvement regarding your talent.
"How dare you insult my passion!" Johnny Tujenitals replied to his close friend backstage.
Meanwhile, the patrons at open jam night are continuing to be creative with heckles and insults!
The timing may not be right for Johnny's friend to be giving advice. Although, if Johnny was serious about his career and listened to his dear friend about the time he cried around the campfire during his passionate performance. A particular time when he knew Johnny could be in his crowd-pleasing element again.
"Close your eyes and your ears to the crowd and get back out there! Put yourself in that magical moment again! You know how to do that! Go! Go!" Johnny Tujenital's dear friend was eager with belief that this is his shining moment to redeem himself.
Despite how frightening it would be returning to an insulting crowd, I would have to admire someone that can hold their head up and reintroduce themselves. Be honest and take the advice from a friend. Tell the crowd a story and take them to your level. Finish with a sweet melody that has captivated an audience once before. Don't leave wishing you had done this! You will be remembered! You were mocked off the stage by critics and you were motivated to return by constructive criticism.
