The Music Industry

    Our first post here on Steemit will be a couple situations that happened to the same person. You never know what life will throw at you sometimes.

The Deaf Party
    In 2005 I co-owned a small venue with some friends. We held concerts 3 nights a week and the after-parties were frequent. One after-party in particular stands out amongst the many. It wasn’t as loud as it should have been for some reason. After a bit I realized that one of the bands had a huge fan base in the deaf community. I understand that doesn’t make sense. The morning was getting close and the crowd began to thin out. It turns out those who could hear couldn’t party as hard as those who couldn’t. I was the only one that had no idea what was being said and I was depending on my roommate’s poor signing skills to get the gist of the conversation. This lasted for hours. Despite how frustrating this may sound they were all really cool people and I was quite enjoying the unusual circumstance of being a minority in my own house.

The End of a Local Legend
    The area we lived had a local band by the name of Parallax. They were fairly well known and had just come back from a surrounding state tour. The plan was to throw welcome home, back to back, Thursday & Friday show. Parallax was set to headline both nights. The Thursday night show was a success and the bands that played that night had a special after-party planned. They were headed to the nearby foothills to a little known cave. In order to reach the end of the cave you had to follow a rope underwater and resurface on the other side. This is something they had done multiple times before. The vocalist from Parallax, 2 more vocalists from the opening bands and their photographer, who was also the Parallax vocalists girlfriend, had all gone in the water to reach the other side. To their surprise the opening on the other side was full of water from a heavy rain the night before and there was no air. The 4 of them attempted to turn around and come back out. The problem arose when the girl at the back of the line started to drown before she could make it out blocking the other 3 behind her. No one made it out of the cave alive. The show scheduled the next night had turned into a memorial service and the city promptly & permanently sealed the cave.
