Sometimes when you're young you just want to rebel, and don't much care what you're rebelling against. Organizers take full advantage of that, unfortunately.

Yes, young people hate to think that they are insignificant. That makes them vulnerable to clever people who want to use them.
Over the years I learned that it's a good thing to be insignificant, at least officially. It's a bit like being invisible. Nobody cares what you do, because it's not interesting. It's like being a stone among piles of poo, you appear to be boring - but the flies leave you alone.
