I have been digging pretty hard and I think I have found the cream of the crop this week. As always, I don't cover singles only EP's and LP's. If you have something you want me to consider for a this series please comment below or find me on Discord. I am typically hanging around the MSP-PAL server or the Atomcollector Server. You may notice that I use Bandcamp a lot, I try to do this in every case because it is a great way to interact directly with artists or the artists small label. Also, Bandcamp supports the label I am on (more about that in a later post) so support my team by supporting them, we truly love the staff over there. Ok here we go...
Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Burry It
It is so very rare that I get the chance to point at a band and say "they embody everything in my musical pallet". Rolo Tomassi is one of them. I really mean this, they are truly eclectic in every sense of the word. Right at the begging of Time Will Die and Love Will Burry It a new listener can assume this is about to be a girly indie rock album made by a band who is SUPER HAPPY to be making an album. But this carries on only long enough to assume wrong before you are thrown into whirlwind of screaming and sound. Eva Spence is one of the greatest singers alive in my opinion. She has more range than anyone since Patti Smith. One could equate her style as Niall Quinn (rest in power you beautiful angel) of The Cranberries meets Daniel Weyandt of ZAO (one of the pioneers of grind metal). Eva is one of the true masters of the scream, an art form cherished by cultures for centuries. But outside of screaming her voice is as angelic as any great singer you know. The French band is altogether a combination of styles from electronic to indie rock to metal and so much more. Every musician in the band is advanced in their talents. This album might be their best work thus far, but that is hard to say. They have so much great music and I haven't had enough time with this one.
Superorganism - Superorganism
Superorganism could be called the internet's gypsy band? Something like that. They may have just released their debut album, but they have a rich history. The Eversons made friends with one of their biggest fans, Orono Noguchi, and through years of staying in touch via the internet they found out Orono could sing and had a very unique style. They started working with her and added some other member along the way. Most of the members are from different places in the world and rage vastly in age. They currently share a home/live in studio working on weird music. With notes of The Flaming Lips, The Beatles, and a ton of genre's, Superorganiasm brings an international sounding pop album. I have been having a blast listening to this record on repeat.
Elaquent - Celebrate Life!
J Dilla has birthed a generation of amazing producers. And this probably will not ever end, at least I hope not. Tronoto based producer Elaquent delivers a new 6 song EP of smooth keys and head-knocking beats. He is no stranger to dropping heat like this, with releases dating back to 2012 and collaboration with artists like BUDAMONK and GoYama. Celebrate Life! is another amazing addition to his catalog, it is clean, blissful, and knocks like a bowling ball hitting a wood floor.
Cut Chemist - Die Cut
Ok if you don't know who Cut Chemist is then I feel sorry for you. This man was among one of my first big inspirations in terms of producing, DJing, career and over all creativity. The co-founder of Jurrasic 5/Brainfreeze/Ozomatii releases a brand new fast paced DJ/Producer extravaganza. Die Cut is another notch in trip-hop's belt of incredible contributions featuring legends such as Biz Markie, J5 members and so many more. This is one of those records where you can't really define it's era. It sounds like it came from every era of hip hop and pulls from every other popular genre along the way.
Sinitus Tempo - XXIX
Sinitus Tempo brings to you his 47th release.... that's what I said 47. I am surprised he didn't call it XLVII or maybe he is saving that for 50 or L. Anyways, Sinitus Tempo is a household name in trip-hop, with 47 records out you sort of have to have heard him if you are a real trip-hop fan. He tends to bridge the gap between smooth-jazz and trip-hop but like to surprise you with stuff outside of his lane while still maintaining his sonic identity. XXIX is a great dinner party style album where you can still get weird but in a polite sort of way.
Ok that is this weeks top picks. I hope you enjoy them, let me know if you listened to any of them, suggest some artists to keep an eye on, or just say hi in the comments. Again if you have an EP or LP on the way hit me up, I may not cover it but I always support Steemian artists.
Namaste,
XD
