Recordpool Squad // New Music This Week: Third Week Of March

in musicreviews •  7 years ago  (edited)

What a week it has been right? For some reason it feels like Thursday but it is merely TUESDAY!!!! I have some great jams for you, so get your favorite vice, sit back and enjoy some brand new tunes. As always, I don't cover singles only EP's and LP's, if you have something you want me to check out please comment below or find me on Discord. I am usually in the MSP-PAL server or the Atomcollector. Enough with the introduction..... let's dig!

Garden City Movement - Apollonia
What would happen if Marvin Gaye were sad all of the time? Well, he may have just formed a band and called it Garden City Movement. But instead Roi Avital, Joe Saar, and Johnny Sharoni formed Garden City Movement. This album is very smooth, very funky, very dance, and very sad. A lot of the lyrics are nihilistic carried over detuned minor chords and extremely well played instruments. The U.K. formed band has been working hard since they started and their hard work has been rewarded with a lot of critical attention. A huge thank you to @soundwavesphoton for turning me on to this band right when they released this record.

Bishop Nehru - Elevators: Act I & II
My truest hope is that I am not the person introducing you to Bishop Nehru. But if this is your introduction well then you are in luck, this is a fantastic album. Elevators: Act I & II is an epic message of how to "wake up" in life. It is full of profound thoughts, deep philosophy, and guides to being a better person. Bishop Nehru is one of those rappers who understands that his voice is as much of an instrument as a drum, bass, Rhodes, or anything that forms the body of the music. He doesn't hold onto a self made style, his style is the music. I think this artist has a super bright future and can't wait to hear more of his work and see him live.

Alva Noto - Unieqav
I find myself commonly informing people of what is and isn't real techno. People tend to think anything electronic is simply techno, and they couldn't be more off. Alva Noto is real life Techno with a capitol T. Alva Noto is one of Germany's best contributors to the EDM and Techno cultures. Unieqav is his latest solo release and happen to make the album of the week on Bleep which is no small feat. The record is very minimal, he only uses sounds when they are perfect proportionate to what was previously playing. Everything fits in a perfect bed of deep basses and kicks accompanied by mind altering bloops and zaps, thick with pads that carry you to a cyber world. Alva Noto happens to also be a member of Diamond Version, Signal, Cyclo. If Cyclo is familiar to you then you are a film score buff. Cyclo scored the incredible film The Revenant and my god, I could listen to that score on repeat all week.

Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
There are 2 states that make fucking incredible metal, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Pennsylvania based Rivers Of Nihil release their new album Where Owls Know My Name and are you interested in a total mind fuck? Well good this one will take you there. Moving from Doom to Smooth Jazz to Psychedelic Jam to Grind to What-The-Fuck they will take you on a true journey. This record is strange and I friggin love it. It is no wonder why it took them 5 years to make it. Since the band signed to the prestigious Metal Blade Records they have released very little music. So whenever they finally put something out it is a very exciting event. Old Nothing is wildly impressive and is my favorite track on this record. I hope you enjoy this one, even if you are not a fan of metal I recommend that you give it a shot.

Biosphere - The Hilvarenbeek Recordings [Remastered and expanded version]
Check it out, we're discovering Biosphere together! Which is crazy because he has been dropping dope Ambient music since 1997, FREAKIN 1997!!!! Well The Hilvarenbeek Recordings is an fascinating release, I don't do this often but I am going to direct quote the Bancamp description about it. "The Hilvarenbeek Recordings are based on field recordings from the Dutch farm Biologische boerderij 't Schop in Hilvarenbeek. Commissioned by Incubate. " Biosphere did an amazing job of taking these recordings and making them totally unique, musical, and blissful. This is a great record to put on and straight fall into meditation or play in the background through your day. I am going to be spending a lot of time digging into his catalog as everything looks incredible. I wish I lived in Norway just to see him perform all the time.

Ok well these are my picks of fresh new music this week, with the help of the stupendous @soundwavesphoton. I hope you enjoy them. I have yet to get the chance to cover some Steemian musicians, so be the first!! Dsound seems to be in it's early days so presenting EP's and LP's are not quite there yet...... get on that guys!! So it is hard for me to dig there and find actual albums. So I need to know you are up to with that old fashion get-to-know-ya, so jump on the aforementioned Discord servers and find me!!! You can get my attention by tagging your album's post with either #recordpool or #asonintrigue or #definitionmusic. Anyone can use those tags and I will resteem your original music as long as it is quality stuff. Until next week my record fiends!!! We are One Thirty Eight (comment if you get it).
