No, not nearly enough. This sort of questions arouses my passion because it's my field, the course I took in school.
Farmers are the lifeblood of the nation, without them the populace would starve to death.
The very first job that ever existed was farming. Farming before engineering or medicine. It however surprising that those who have engage in the art are not recognised.
There's an aura, a stigma that seems to go with farming that makes many people think that farming is meant for peasants alone. This is a fallacy, in every way you can imagine it. It beats me to see that people don't realize how much much farming and farmers mean to our perpetuity and continuous existence.
I remember some month back when I happened to be teaching agriculture. I asked my students what they'd like to become. These were students in junior classes. I gave them choices and a lot of them wanted to become doctors, engineers and pharmacists. It was shocking to know that many of them didn't consider agriculture as a good field. I mean practically no one raised a hand when I mentioned farmer. Thus goes to show that people don't know what the value of the agricultural sector to our existence. The worst thing was that a lot of these teenagers had parents who were predominantly farmers and yet, they denied their occupation, denied that which feeds them.
So, yes, I think farmers don't get nearly enough recognition, respect for what they do.

In our society of today i will say no; farmers get very little or no respect at all from the society. Humans have always been fun of only valuing the instant help they get and fail to see the bigger picture. I mean fsrmers work very hard and add a lot to the economy of every country. There is no state entity that continues to bring in a lot of funds into the state budget as the agricultural sector which is powered by they farmers.
A practical proof of the little respect that has been attributed to farmers or their profession is how parents nowadays frown at the idea of hearing their children aspire to be farmers. They don't want to hear it and instead expect them to go for the well respected jobs like medical doctors, lawyers, Engineers etc. Just further showing the value and respect awarded to the profession.
The truth is that, coupled with the work that these people do and their hard times under the ever hot son working their lives hard to increase yields yearly surely deserve more respect and recognition from the society. It is just sad that this is not the case in our society of today. If i should have it my way, they don't only deserve more respect but very rewarding pay too..

When compared to the amount of work that a farmer does, I believe they aren't getting that much respect. The value that farmers bring in to the world and the respect they should be getting is not fair. Currently, the system is i.e. the money dictates the respect. The more money you have the more respect you get. In, general and to answer your question - No farmers do not get that much respect as they should have been getting. That is the sad part about it.
