From the creation of the world when man sinned and was driven out from the garden of Eden, there has been this separation between man and God. This separation, God was not pleased because he loved the world and did not desire for any to perish and so he sent his son to die for us.
The bible tells us in John 3:16 that God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son and that whomever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. Jesus came so that the word through him might be fulfilled and so he died on the cross of Calvary nailing our sins to the cross and giving us free access. Now we are no longer children of the bondservants but joint heirs with Christ. Yet thus salvation must be worked out by each and every one of us with fear and trembling because the devil is roaring like a wounded lion, seeking whom to devour.
To find God, one must imbibe the habit of studying the scripture, in the book of John 17:17 the bible says sanctify me with the word, thy word is truth. In John 8:32 says you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.
You know the truth from studying the word. When you study God's word then you believe it. The bible says blessed are those who hear and believe. After believe you confess your sins to God. After confession comes repentance. You repent from your evil ways and then submit yourself to the water for baptism which is the washing away of your sins and an answer of good conscience towards God.
After this, the holy spirit will descend on you and will dwell in you. The holy spirit is from God. You continue in living a godly life, praying to God and doing his will always.
Your question certainly has a different answer according to the religion adopted.
according to the religion of Islam, the way a person finds god (ALLAH) is by carrying out all of his commands and away from all prohibitions, and the easiest is by performing fardhu prayers a day and night five times.
