Some time ago a lot of news circulated that consuming carbonated diet drinks can cause a person to be overweight, because it makes people who consume them become more to consume fast food.
But apparently, carbonated diet drinks and regular mineral water have the same benefits for weight loss. That's all revealed by research from the University of North Carolina.
"Our study does not provide evidence to suggest that consumption of diet soda drinks can increase a person's preference for eating sugary foods excessively," said one study, Carmen Piernas.
The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that mineral water and carbonated diet drinks can reduce the average calorie intake per day between 2000 and 2300 calories, and 1500 to 1800 calories.
The results were made from a study of several thousand people, and the results were discovered six months later. All participants claimed to experience weight loss.
For those who consume mineral water, on average eat more fruits and vegetables. As for those who consume carbonated diet drinks, eat fewer desserts that are sweet.
Even though this is good news for you, it's good for you to stay alert for carbonated diet drinks. Because, if a woman consumes too much carbonated diet drinks can increase the risk in the woman by 80 percent. This research was conducted by researchers at Osaka University, Japan.
While research conducted by the University of Lund, Sweden, shows that a man who consumes carbonated diet drinks can increase the risk of prostate cancer by 40 percent.
My biggest issue with diet soda's besides the fact that they all have that same nasty tainted taste, is that you are putting artificial sweeteners in your body.
Over the years countless studies have been done to show that putting anything artificial in your body is just not a great idea. The idea that a beverage can be healthier for you simply because it has a substitute for sugar in it is just silly to me.
Aspertame is one of the biggest things that they used to use in sugar free sodas and foods. They have started to cut back on those now because of issues they found with them. Olestra was another synthetic chemical they were putting in food as a substitute for something else.
More recently, they have even started to tell people to go back to eating full fat yogurts, butters, and other foods. To make those low-fat foods reduced fat they had to add a bunch of sugars or artificial sweeteners which are just as bad for you.
I have actually made an effort over the past 15 years of my life to cut out soda altogether (unless it is mixed with a little rum). Are you immediately going to see the negative results of diet soda? Probably not. Is it something that could kill you slowly over time via other issues or complications? Possibly, but there are also many other things that could do the same.
Eating a pound of bacon every day could be just as bad as drinking 40oz of diet soda every day. Is one better because it is more natural than the other?
I think it is the artificial sweeteners and chemicals more than anything else that possibly over time could cause complications.
If you have too much of one thing and it's not balanced then there is a risk of something. If you are having one drink of diet soda a day I don't see any worries. Drinking water with the purification chemicals may have a similar affect as everything has something foreign in it these days.
Just live your life and have things in moderation and you will be fine.
