Let me start by saying that smart work and hard work are not mutually exclusive. Neither does it mean that they are one and the same.
The fact is that any strategy may employ a smart or even a genius level work around to a big problem and yet it would also mean that to execute that strategy, hard work might still be required. The thing about smart work is that it is focused and uses creativity as a means to obtain the objective by using 'hard work' as one of the tools.
Some of the most efficient strategies may still end up draining our mental and physical resources. What I mean to imply is that there is no way to choose between hard work or smart work because in most cases they both are required to achieve ones goals.
Probably the best way to answer this question is with a meme. :)
One notable difference between working hard and working smart is the time and effort one consumes to get the desired result. Working Smart focuses on finding an efficient method to get the result fast without taking too much effort while Working Hard focuses entirely on the end result.
A good classic example for this would be transporting a heavy block like the one in the image above. People who choose to Work Hard would probably lift the heavy block as it is the most common way to transport a block. The most common way but not the most efficient way. People who choose to Work Smart would first get a cart or something to put the heavy block first for easy transport, making the effort and time consumed by the worker very little allowing him to transport more blocks compared to the Hard Working one.
Work is something in this life that we can't get rid of, whether you are working offline or online,if I am to choose one between hard work and smart work , i would choose smart work, why did I choose smart work? I will experience the reason below.
A case study was when i started steemit , I keep posting many articles but in the end I won't get upvote until I joined a communitied which I know many things from there, had I been I keep working on my own on steemit, I wouldn't be able to earn a dime from steemit, I now post less and earn well, you see, not like the days when I posted many articles daily.
Another case study was during my last semester exam In my institutions, there was a course which everybody is panicking for die to all the students that ghave graduated keep telling us, I didn't panic, on the first lectures day z the lecturer bring a big textbook along, I cram the name of the textbook and I crammed it, when I reach my hostel, I downloaded the PDF of the textbook, but what I always notice is that whenever we are given any assignments, all the questions come from the textbooks, I checked the past questions of the previous year and all the questions were from the same textbooks, then I don't stressed myself much again, I practiced all the questions in the textbook and online exam day they set the questions that I have already solved.
Can you now see that smart work pays than hard work??.
That would definitely be "smart work", why would you work hard if you can work smart? And, if you work smart, you can still work harder, which will increase your productivity even more.
However, sometimes you need to work harder first, to experience it, and to see how you can work smarter.

So yeah I choose to Work Smart.
