This is a funny question. I don't think that the difference one going to college is a difference. One is called a banker and the other is a gateman, the difference in their names is a difference.
Apart from that, a banker works inside a banking institution and is charged with the responsibility of handling money why a gateman mans the gate and is in charge of opening and closing the gate.
It would be unfair to compare both professions because they are beyond comparison. They are not alike in anyway and so shouldn't be compared with based on educational qualification or not except you are referring to a difference between two people who studied banking and finance or maybe accountancy and one is working in the bank whereas the other is manning the gate which I think is highly an unlikely situation
A gateman keeps the outer entrances into the Banking Hall. His Responsibilities are every action that enables Banking activities possible within the Banking Hall which it's core activity is PREVENTING INCURSION OF INTRUDERS with ILL intents from gaining access to the bank.
A banker is him/her who serves renders financier services of the said bank to Customers which could be directly ( cashier's) or indirectly (personnel staff) to mention , but few examples.
Please note that both the Gateman and the Banker renders equally important service to their Employer!! Both could be equally educates as well. Just division of Labor within an Organization.
This is a really funny question. Let's ignore the wealth of knowledge and exposure that bankers get from interacting with clients as well as the fact that bankers obviously earn a whole lot more than gatemen/security guards do and just focus on the obvious namely.
1. Bankers wear better clothes: It's the truth, gatemen usually wear shitty clothes and are almost mostly in uniform, where else bankers are always wearing suits
2. Bankers speak better English: Well it's no secret that going to school gives them an added academic advantage, but then again speaking good English is something that's grossly underrated, at least in my country Nigeria and frankly I've never seen a banker who couldn't speak English properly, as for gatemen, it's almost the opposite.
3. Bankers are smarter: Owing to the fact that they deal with and interact with smart people every day, bankers generally end up being smarter than gatemen, let's ignore the fact that academically they are also smarter.
Well I don't know what else to say, I hope you find this useful.
I think the difference is "opportunity". Most security men in banks are degree holders only few have no degree but have some sort of college certificate. Some were deployed to banks by outsourcing firms under renewal contract of mostly every two years. So nullify that claim that security men do not go to college. In my country,Nigeria, most banks security men are college graduates like normal bank staffs. So the key difference there is OPPORTUNITY.
