This right here is a horrible lie that has been thoroughly debunked. The NIH did not fund gain of fnction research that led to the coronvirus pandemic. Full stop.
All the NIH-funded research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology is publicly available. We know exactly what viruses they were working with in those grants. None of the viruses were remotely close to SARS-COV-2. All six of the NIH-funded bat viruses at the lab only shared 80% or fewer nucleotide sequences with SARS-COV-2. This gap represents many, many decades of evolutionary divergence. It is technically impossible for any of them to be the progenitor virus to SARS-COV-2.
Fauci did not lie to Congress either for that matter. The NIH letter following his testimony explicitly confirmed that the EcoHealth Alliance grants did not fit the definition of research involving enhanced pathogens of pandemic potential (ePPP), aka gain of f*nction. The grants involved bat viruses that had not been shown to infect humans and involved experiments that were not expected to increase infectivity or pathogenicity.
