It's interesting when people bring up the treatment that others "deserve" and arrive on "respect" and "dignity."

I really think that the Bible got it right in Matthew 7:12. Ya know, treat others as you would want to be treated.

Of course, I want to be treated with respect and dignity; but, the mantra that we should treat people with respect and dignity is another lie that people tell. In fact, the most vocal people in regard to demanding respect seem to be the least respectful people on earth.

There's a key word missing. That word is, "presumption."

We should all treat each other with the presumption that we deserve respect and dignity, and that impression is yours to lose.

It would be wrong of anyone to judge another human being before that person gets a chance to open his or her mouth, or type his or her words. That doesn't mean that anybody is entitled to respect or dignity.

If I let you talk, and you blurt out that Hitler had it right in regard to the Jews, I gave you the presumption, and you failed to live up to my generosity.

This is reciprocal. I'm pushing forty. I've said dumb shit in my life. I'll continue to say dumb shit. I don't expect any of you to treat me like I'm Stephen Hawking when I say dumb shit. I expect you to come at me, and ridicule me, and disrespect me. I also expect you to expect the same from me if you say something stupid.
