Did you ever hear them talking...
The ship upon the sea?
They answer one another
When the fogs too thick to see.
Some ships have voices big and deep,
While little boats are shrill,
They call across the waters
When the day is gray and still.
It's nice that ship can talk this way
Far out upon the deep,
For even through the long, long night
Some of them never sleep
But keep a faithful, lonely watch
That they may call "All's well!"
Or signal other passing ships
With friendly toot or bell.
