My 2018: A Tour around my town: The small town charm

in my2018 •  7 years ago

I am taking you on a video and photography tour around the town that I live in. And even though I am moving soon, this is what I call home and it has been that for more than a year now. I have fallen in love with this fairytale place, the rustic architecture, the people who always say ''hi!''. The bakeries and the restaurants, everything here is amazing and cute!

The day I did the video(Monday) it was a little cold. I had to put on my warm fuzzy jacket and my fingers froze because I did not take any mittens. It is the perfect weather for me when the cold hits, when the frost bites your nose and your cheeks grow pink. The water turns into snowflakes, there is white everywhere and, the best part, you feel like you are in a fictional story, not in the real world, magic is what rules and the blue skies lay saturated with rich colors.

I know I have been lazy with my videos lately but I have found a great tool to work with (Shutout to @irreverent-dan) and even though my skills are still cringe-worthy, I did make a clip! Sorry for the camera shakes, they annoy me, too!

So, now enough showing off how cold I was, let's jump into it and present you with a contest entry as well as a tour!

This is my entry to @anomadsoul's contest A tour around my town

To be honest, this whole part of Germany is like a dream, their buildings are amazing, the historical heritage varies from town to town but never really strays from the same path. Medieval walls, hundreds of churches, ornaments everywhere, inside and right at the doors. Cakes, amazing bread in the bakeries, their passion for wine and their love for good humor, the long walks they take.

I would like to be more like the locals, my German is coming along, but slowly, I have set a goal to learn more every day the second I move. I want to take more walks, into the big cities and the small ones alike. Into the forests that seem to be everywhere and on the wine bridges that hold many people, all the time, every day.

But we are not here to talk about what I want, let's go for a walk, in the town of Eibelstadt!

The first remarkable thing I always notice when getting out of the house is the tower. There are more than one but this one is right next to our house. There is a huge medieval wall going around the inner circle of the town. It has been preserved amazingly well and I would love to go inside one of the huge towers if there ever appears a chance. I also have an urge to climb those towers every time I see them but I have watched Game of Thrones and know how that may end. I neither want to become a three-eyed Raven nor not be able to walk for the rest of my life... So I just stop and dream every time I see one of those towers and there are many, not just a lonely one.

The style of different little towns is quite similar, you can see how they all connect in a way, there is always a Platz in the middle, a Rathaus that houses the city council... but in each little city, there is a different aura, different people, and different houses. The streets have different curves, the restaurants are serving different klöße(potato balls) from their own family recipes, there are different decorations featured on the doors, windows, and vitrines attached to the walls. Life is good here and a lot of fun happens during festival time. Farmers markets open every week, people come with their stalls and sell their products, some home-made bread, greens, and salads.

There are a lot of independent winemakers in our tiny town of three thousand inhabitants. Our cellar at home is full of local and imported wines alike but the people from here are especially proud of what they make on their own. There are always some kind of events going on connected to wine, either it is wine walking in the vineyards and stopping at stations to eat and drink, or an autumn festival in the city center. Again, with a wide variety of drinks and food to choose from.

Every time I go out of the house, I pass a brewery just for the simple reason that they are on every corner. We have our own Wine princess in the town, a woman belonging to a family that brews the alcoholic beverage. They are not big on beer here but it has been replaced with different preferences. It is not rare to see restaurants offering a glass of wine to drink outside, you pay for a glass and you get your money back when you return it.

Even though I am not big on alcohol of any kind, I admire how devoted the people here are, will it be making juices or alcohol, there is always going to be a demand if your product is any good.

In our small town, there are two food stores, one smaller and one quite big. There are two bakeries that sell delicious cakes and bread alike. Coffee on the side and you are ready to go. There is everything a person may need, hairdressers, small shops, entertainment, nature. There are countless paths to walk, there is a river to sit by, there is a gym and a sports field, even a trailer park on the border of town.

You just have to be willing to get out of the house. Sure enough, you will find something new every time, a new spot to hang out at, a grapevine to sneak a grape away from(but just one or two, because the wine-makers have got to have their produce). There are people that will not try to get into your business. They will, however, say ''hi'' and that may as well increase your mood.

There are tiny pavement streets as well as well-made roads. Harmony dominates here as the new entwines with the old.

In this final image, you can see my favorite bakery in town right next to the most beautiful restaurant we have. It always has Christmas lights shining at night and the rustic style goes amazing with them. Food places open in the evening, around dinnertime. A new life is breathed in the small town, people are back from work and ready to explore the flavor options. We have Italian and German, and there are so many different places to check out in the other nearby towns, the flavors are amazing, full of zest and warmth, there are never two places that offer food that tastes exactly the same.

Come! Visit! Have fun and marvel in wonder!

thanks for the tour Linda, looks like a lovely rustic town you live in! Feels like I practically stopped by for a quick visit, albeit a slightly bumpy one! lol :D

Yeah, it was all those pavement streets :D

I kind of made the video faster than I recorded it and it added to the bump a lot, I should have known when I filmed that it would be that way :D

Oh, and you should definitely come and visit one day!

That looks like a wonderful place to live! I love all the colors of the buildings and the cobblestones. A charming old town with so much to offer! Thanks for taking us with you :)

Yeah, and the best part is, a lot of towns here are rustic and still unique. It is wonderful to take a stroll in them.

It was nice to see you and go for a walk with you. I cannot say anything about Spanish wines I do not like alcohol either (sometimes apple or pear cider only). We have had snow over here in Spain, chilly outside, might snow tonight.

Yes, the cold is taking over Europe now, I love some snow but whet is out there now is nothing much, I would love to have a deep white blanket that you can play in, the kid in me wants to build a snowman and play outside :D

Looks like a Lovely Art place to live. You should see the Shithole Communist city I live in :D

Haha, I have seen them, believe me, I come from a country where communism was high and mighty once upon a time, I know what you mean and that is why I find this place very beautiful, there are no square gray buildings and monotone cardboard apartments here :D

Wow, this is amazing.

I've literally felt the weather there in Lund Latvia, and I'll say Germany for sure is pretty amazing for such a small town to be so independent as it has almost everything in it.

The architectural works are just fantastic, the walls, the buildings and even the roads, a perfect blend of the new age and the medieval times.
Just learnt that this town is very rich in Wines, and I'm hoping one day when I travel out I could get to see this beauty of a town.

I guess the folks enjoy taking coffee most at times since the weather is wintry at the moment. And glad you enjoyed your home, though you'll be leaving soon. All the best and more joy when you move to your new home.

And I didn't know this was actually a contest from the beginning, and I love how you did introduce the contest. This is me wishing you all the best in the contest.

Cheers😀😀

Well, Latvia is a completely separate country from Germany, it is right under Finland.

Yes, the architecture is great and there is a piece of every time period which is double cool!

Yeah, people like warm stuff in cold weather, I am not big on coffee but it is not unusual to have cake with it. They have some pretty amazing food here!

Thank you! :)

Oh okay 😊😊, thank you for the hint.
I guess the town is Eibelstadt if I'm not mistaken as the title of the video says.

Cake with coffee? I'll certainly try that out.

Your hometown is really an amazing and peaceful place.

Have fun 😀😀
Thank you

yeah, I know it sometimes is confusing, I have lived and been in a lot of places so it is not unusual to mix up them sometimes :D

Hehe, thanks a bunch for taking out time to educate me more on this. I'm really grateful 😊😊

nice town

Thanks

Thank you for taking part in this months #culturevulture challenge. Good Luck.
