My 2018: A Tour around my town: Port Harcourt the Garden City.

Good day steemians

 

Before i go ahead, i will love to appreciate the effort of @anomadsoul for still keeping this contest that has been taking place since last year alife, I actually thought it will end in #my2017 but to my greatest surprise, He continued the Contest to 2018. 

Over to the topic of the day, that has been trending in steemit for more than a week now is #my2018. The challenge is quite simple. The only thing needed from participating steemians is to give us a tour around your home town and some cool places you do hang out and lots more. When i saw the contest, i decided to use the opportunity, to visit places i haven’t been for awhile, in order to take good snap shot. i am really excited to showcase this part of my home town to the world at large.

MY LOCAL GYM HOUSE:

First and foremost, i will love to start with where i go to every morning to work out. I stay around the ghetto part of Port Harcourt, Rivers State in Nigeria. Where i work out is not like the every day foreign type of gym house you see in movies. Is just a local weight made up of tire wheels, cement, trailer wheels and a cross iron. I must confess, it wasn’t easy taking this pictures. The guys there refused to stop smoking there “weed”. I had to wait till afternoon when the place was less scanty,  to take a better picture of the place.

SPAR SHOPPING MALL:

One of the most famous place in Port Harcourt, Spar Shopping Mall. The shopping mall is the  biggest in Rivers State. Spar Hypermarket is the one-stop store for getting almost everything one may need. Be it home appliances, electronics, household tools, grocery, bakery, fruits, cosmetics, gadgets and other various necessities.

The place is always busy and you don’t want to be there during festive season because is always choked up with crowd of people. most of them just come there to snap pictures, some just come for site – seeing and lots of other funny things.

I am privilege to know all this because i happen to work there as one of the stock control officer.

MY HOME TOWN: OKRIKA. 

Another exciting place i always love to be is in my village, Okrika, a Local Government Area in Rivers State, Nigeria. Is one of the most peaceful place one can be. I always use that as an opportunity to see my grand ma, since she is the only one alife among my grand parents.

I also cease the opportunity to hang out with my cousins at a popular local  joint  called “Rhoda Bar and Restaurant”, to drink some beer and take fresh fish pepper Soup. 

 

 PRESIDENTIAL HOTEL:

Presidential hotel is one of the leading and luxurious five stars hotel in Niger Delta regions. It located in the heart of the garden city of Port Harcourt. Suites are spacious and seen as the first port of call for tourist and business travellers. Is the best place to chill out with the family. 

I've been there on several occasions to swim with my friends. There pool is really spacious and quite affordable. I thought of spending my Valentine day with my girlfriend over there but come to think of it, if I use the hotel expenses money on her, she will appreciate it more.. That's 9ja babe for you. 😂 

CULTURAL CENTRE 

The Port Harcourt cultural centre is a great place to appreciate the culture of the city. The centre is built to exhibit the rich diversity of the Port Harcourt people and their culture. Local artefacts that date as far back as before the creation of Port Harcourt City. 

PORTHARCOURT PLEASURE PARK:

Port Harcourt Pleasure Park, is a public recreation park in Rumuola, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria . The purpose of the park is to serve as both a tourist destination and a revenue generator for the state. It was commissioned just last Year around May.

The park boasts a wide range of facilities including an extensive children's playground, a miniature soccer field, 5 person paddle boats, each designed for drivers and three passengers. If you are a good golfer, there is also a golf course for you. 

STACH HUB:

Well, last but not the least is the STACH HUB which was created by @ejemai. #stach is a community driven platform which is set to replicate the robust online offering in the offline space. A place were like minds of steemians come to meet to share ideas, to learn more things about the steemit community. The Stach Hub is located in two states in Nigeria. One in Akwa Ibom state which was commissioned January 2018 while the Head Quarters in Rivers State. Is really a nice place to be, with constant power supply and free Wi-Fi for all steemians to use.

Well, the places I mentioned above are places I go often but there are still other cool places to tour In Rivers State but since I am restricted not to take pictures from the net, I'll just mention few of them.

Other tourist attraction in Rivers State includes: 

• Port Harcourt tourist beach
• Songhai Farm 
• Silver Bird. 
• Port Harcourt zoo
• Bonny Island
• Isaac boro garden park and lots more to mention. 

If by any chance you happen to come to Rivers State, Nigeria and you are wondering were to visit, the places are mentioned above are all great places to hang out...
