My Crypto Journey — How I Got Into Crypto

in mycryptostory •  7 years ago

Ive heard of BTC before in the news, but they always said negative things about it. They would say that people were buying drugs and hit men with it. So i never looked into it because i didnt want to stumble into something bad. However, about 3 months ago that all changed.

At work one day, i was talking with my co-worker about how to get rich quick. This began with talking about YouTube. There are many YouTube people out there who are younger than me and making millions. Me and my coworker envied this. We wanted a way to get rich quick so we talked about making a YouTube channel. After seriouslytalking about it, he says “i just want to get rich quick. Let’s do it”. This is when a stranger over hears and introduces us both to crypto.

I never got this guy’s name or anything, he literally just walked up to us and started talking cryptos and saying “if you want to get rich quick, this is the way to go”. He started of by talking about BTC LTC and ETH. He said he really believed in these and that they are all going up soon. Then he pulled up his Coinbase account.

If you dont know, Coinbase is an exchange for cryptos and is fairly easy to use for beginners. I didn’t know this at the time so as he was showing us this, i thought it was awesome. He pointed out Litecoin saying he believed it would surpass BTC one day.

This was the coolest thing. I didnt know anything about cryptos. Nothing at all. I didnt even really understand what they were. But it was fascinating to me. I asked him how much he had into them and he said he put about $7,500 between the three of them. Now, being into crypto now, i realize this isn’t a huge amount relative to other people, but it was a lot to me. So naturally, the next question was “how much are you up?”.... the answer is what convinced me to get into crypto.

He said “I’m at about $15,000 right now”..... WOW!! Double what he put!!

This blew me away. So after wrapping up the conversation with him i got back to work with my coworker. We didnt say anything about it to each other. I figure we were both contemplating it and thinking about it all. That night however when i got home, i spent most of the night researching cryptos. There is so much to learn so i started on YouTube. I just looked at videos explaining cryptos.

The next day at work, i bring the guy back up to my co-worker and he says “i was up all night researching that stuff”. So was I!!! The guy fro the day before really hooked us into cryptos!

So day after day goes buy and I’m learning more about cryptos, specifically BTC everyday. It’s probably been a month since the guy introduced it to me. But i finally feel I know enough to put some money into it. So i create my coinbase account and try to make a transaction. Well, my bank does not allow me to send money to coinbase.

This is the part that irritates me because this was when BTC was at about $6,000. It has more than doubled since then. But its okay. I missed out on this. So i had to research alternate ways to get BTC. This led me to Bitcoin ATMs. There was one pretty close to where i live and i decided to go for a walk and get to the ATM. So i did. It was at some sleazy bar and when i walk in i look around and see the ATM.

I was so nervous because it was my first transaction and i had never sent crypto anywhere before or anything like that. But it all went smoothly and it worked out great. I got my BTC in my online wallet and then transferred it when i got home to another wallet. I got in when BTC was about $8,000.

Since then i have learned much about cryptos. Like all of these ALT coins that i find better than BTC and Bittrex and these HYIP platforms like Bitconnect and BTC faucets and gambling sites and finally Steemit. I buy my BTC from CoinMama because it is the only exchange that my bank allowed. (At least from the exchanges i tried)

I LOVE Steemit. I’m going to introduce my coworker to it once work starts back up again. But i am just thankful to this random guy who introduced us to the world of cryptos. I wish i could thank him because i have doubled my money in a lot of coins thanks to him getting me started initially.

@ginquitti great story, thanks for sharing! I've also gotten into cryptocurrency this year and can't wait for what the new year brings. Those are great returns you've seen this year. What cryptos are you looking into for the new year?

I’m not really sure. I’m gonna hold ripple, ETH and cardano but I’m not sure what besides that. I’m looking to hear from some people on what they believe will explode this coming year. NEO and EOS are also 2 i will get into. And of course STEEM lol :) what about you

Those are all great picks! I'm holding BTC, LTC, Binance, ETN, and of course STEEM! lol But also looking into some others for this coming year. Particularly, SALT

Ive heard of SALT, but I’m not sure about it. I dont know much. Ripple has been really good to me so far. It’s up from $.25 to $1.30. And I’ve tried to get on Binance but i cant create an account for some reason

Why can't you create an account. Have you tried setting up your account with google authentication?

I actually got into binance yesterday. It finally worked

Awesome congrats! I started using it a couple months back and have been pretty much using it as my primary exchange ever since!

i came to know about steemit 3months ago, but workload from my 8hr work led me off the wagon. then i heard about bitconnect, tried to invest some USD and since then, it tripled its amount. now, I want to know more about other cryptocurrencies and learn trading them :) and earn money on the side

Yes. Good story. It’s good to hear about people leaving the crypto world and then returning. I’m glad to hear you made profits as well! Keep up the work! :)
